sleep apnea and surgery

I went to the dr (pulmonologist) today for an initial consult for

sleep apnea. I have a sleep study scheduled for the end of November.

I wanted to get this taken care of because 1) I'd been procrastinating

and 2) my mom had palate surgery and has sleep apnea, and was told she

could not use the CPAP machine (keeps you breathing at night). I

wanted to check it out before I have surgery. The pulmonologist said

that the jaw surgeries (and nose job) that I'm looking into may

actually cure the sleep apnea by opening the airway. So we'll see

what happens. I now have more of a medical reason to have the

surgeries, which makes it a bit easier to contemplate the pain and

suffering that will go along with it. Also, I'm excited at the

prospect of sleeping and feeling rested.
