Hi,

I just joined this board, and have a few questions for all of you. I'm

looking to have

orthognathic surgery to correct my retronathic jaw. I have Upper Airway

resistance sleep

apnea, and currently use an mandibular advancement appliance which is working.

I have seen my ortho, had a consult with the Surgeon. What they are suggesting

is a palatal

split, to expand my upper palate (mine is very small) then they would put me in

full braces

for about 12 months, then I would have jaw surgery, then about 6 more months of

braces.

I'm in Alaska and I'm wondering if anyone here has had this done before by Dr.

.

There is another surgeon in town named Dr. Hagey and I'm wondering about him

also. I

want to be totally comfortable with my doctor and convinced that he is

absolutely amazing

at this sort of treatment. Any advice you folks can give me or suggestions on

doctors

would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

you can email me directly if you like at brandytony@...

Hi , that's a very good question to be asking. One way I know

how to look into a surgeon's qualifications is to talk to your

dentist, and perhaps call other dental or orthodontic offices to see

who is the recommended surgeon. I was lucky because I had a friend

who went through this surgery and was also an oral hygienist so she

was already familiar with who had a good reputation.

Good luck!
