Most people do not, in fact, have a lot of pain. A lot of frustration, yes. A lot of congestion (if you're having upper), yes. A lot of numbness, yes, maybe. But usually NOT PAIN. It's incredible, but at least there is not usually big time pain. It's a common misconception, and I'm not saying anyone should be shy about using prescribed pain meds. But usually pain is not a big problem here, unless you have a bone graft. Then the pain at the donor site is usually greater than that in the jaws. I'm no MD, and I didn't believe it when my surgeon told me, but it has proved true for many, many people.
