HELP! I had bone graft surgery yesterday.....

It's been almost a year since I posted last. I am a 44 year old

female. I went through 2 years of braces, with the possibility of

lower jaw advancement of 6 mm (which I choose not to do because of

possible complications, i.e. nerve damage).

Well, yesterday I had 2 bone grafts done, on sides of my lower jaw

due to long-ago extracts, where I wanted implants placed. The

doctor told me it was nothing like full jaw surgery, it was highly

unlikely I would suffer any nerve damage. He said he would stay

well clear of the nerve. He also said he has never had a case of

nerve damage on this type of surgery. The procedure was done at 8

AM yesterday under general & local anethesia (as an out patient).

The local anethesia was to last 8-12 hours. When he called at 5:30

PM, I said I was still experiencing numbing in the chin. He said,

no problem, it was long-lasting anethesia and it should be gone by

tomorrow.

Well, it is tomorrow. I am still numb on both sides, yet he said it

was only the right side where he was even close to the nerve and he

identified it and stayed well clear of it.

Now I am really worried. I am swelled up like a chipmonk, I chose

not to have jaw advancement for this very reason, and it appears I

may have damage from the graft? Has anyone had similar experience

with bone grafts, and if so, did you recover feeling?

Thanks, your advice and help is much appreciated.

Virginia
