Ortho surgery and BABIES!

Hi all,

I am considering having surgery for my open bite and some asymmetry.

I've seen a surgeon for an initial consultation.

I'm wondering if anyone's had braces and then surgery with a young

baby and whether it worked OK?

I have a 2 year old and plan to be pregnant again very soon. My

surgeon suggested I get the braces soon so my teeth will be moved in

time to have the surgery after my baby's born (the braces are

expected to take a year to do their thing).

One of my concerns is the effects of painkillers on my baby - I know

from when I was a teenager that braces hurt a lot when they're

tightened and of course anti-inflammatories aren't healthy in

pregnancy.

Also I plan to breastfeed my next baby for a year, so I'm wondering

how long people need pain meds for after the surgery - I don't think

that much other than panadol/paracetamol is good while

breastfeeding. (I live in New Zealand, not sure if panadol is a name

used in the US?)

I don't want my children to suffer at all from my surgery. I'd

probably wait a few years except my teeth are wearing away and I'm

nearly 33 already and I figure 'the younger the better'.

Thanks in advance,
