Guest guest
Hi group, I just wanted to drop an email with my progress thus far, and hope that my story is encouraging to anyone still thinking about this surgery or pre-op. I had surgery October 5th (upper: 3-piece lefort, all wisdom teeth extracted, palate expansion, deviated septum fixed)... and everything has gone great! The first 2 weeks post-op were rougher than I anticipated, just because keeping a positive attitude at that time is very hard. But after 2 weeks I returned to college on a limited schedule, living on my own, etc. I still got very tired very quickly, mostly because I still was not eating much. I lost 20lbs the first 2 weeks which was more than I wanted, but now have gained back about 5. I am more comfortable with that. Also, at this point, I find that going to the gym regularly in the morning and eating good foods (even though i'm still restricted to 'soft foods) helps me keep my energy for the rest of the day. My birthday was Friday, I got my splint out that morning, and I was able to go out every night this week, so prettymuch back to normal! I saw my orthodontist this morning, and he was suprised at how good everything looks. Originally, pre-op, he said that he would try to get me out of braces in 6 months, before my graduation. Now he says it looks more like 3 months! :) Very happy with how things turned out. For all of you still contemplating this surgery, for what its worth, I would definitely do it again. It helps so much to be well-informed of what you are getting into, and that helps get past those first 2 rough weeks. Anyway, this site is great. I hope that my late Sept/ October sugery buddies have similar success stories.
