Guest guest
Hello everyone. I'm new to this board, though I frequent the Before and After pictures for inspiration. I have an underbite and crossbite due to an overdeveloped lower jaw and am having surgery on Thursday. I haven't had any apprehension for the surgery because I'm a busy guy and much of the process has been battling the insurance company rather than dreaming of the day. Now the scariest thing to me is (and GUYS please give me your input on this) the regulation of the bladder by putting a balloon in my penis. I can deal with the splints, the wiring of the jaw, the inability to speak, the tubes in my nose, but why did they have to go there? I hope I'm heavily sedated when it is removed. Ack! After watching some special on TV, I'm also mildly frightened by the possibility of experiencing and feeling the surgery but being paralyzed by the anesthesia. Guest guest
I'm not a guy but when I was told the day before surgery that they would be puting a catheter in I didn't like the idea but I was glad that I had it in because I didn't get out of bed for two days due to the bone graft etc. I was pumped up with so many different medication that I don't remember having it taken out. I have had 32 surgeries and I haven't woken up during the op at all. --------------------------------- Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Guest guest
Hi Mark Pease try not to worry to much about this. I am 13 days post op from upper and lower jaw surgery. The cathater was put in me when I was asleep and gone when I woke up. How I new was I went in the OR with my underware on and woke up without them and when I had to pee it burned a bit but the morphine drip helped. But yes they do pump you full of quite the cocktale before and after. Just don't stress yourself up to much and you do just fine. Good luck and see you on the otherside. Guest guest
Hi Mark, My surgery is Thursday also. And I also have an underbite and crossbite being corrected. Funnily enough, I just got out of bed this morning, and I promise you I was laying there thinking " What if I wake up during surgery? " I'm sure everyone is right though and we'll be fine. If not, do as Sara said and scream and flail about and they should put you back out asap. Good luck with your surgery! If you get a chance to check in over here afterwards, I'd love to hear about your progress. ~
Guest guest
Thanks for your response. I'm surprised that waking up during the nose job wasn't somewhat traumatic. My surgeon said that the most important thing for me to do post-op is to get out of bed and walk around. This reduces the risk of pneumonia. Is it really that hard to get out of bed afterwards? I'm going to try to rise as soon as I wake up just instinctively. Mark > > > > > > Hello everyone. I'm new to this board, though I frequent the > Before > > > and After pictures for inspiration. Guest guest
Hey , I'd like to keep in touch with you in particular since we have the same case and are having the surgery on the same date. I'm a little more at ease now that I've had time to contemplate the next few weeks. I'll probably post pics demonstrating my progress. Mark > Hi Mark, > > My surgery is Thursday also. Guest guest
Thanks Dennis, I hope I get a morphine drip! The surgeon told me that the catheter will be in there after I wake up and not to be alarmed and think that the wrong surgery was performed. Hahaha! That reminds me of the Married with Children episode when Al was supposed to get a circular incision but received a circumcision. Mark > > Hello everyone.
