You are correct, your son would fall into the moderate/severe category. His

plagio (CVA of 11.4) is moderate:

0-3 mm is normal

<6 mm is very mild

6-10 mm is mild

10-15 mm is moderate

15+ mm is severe

His brachy (CI of 94%) is severe:

Cephalic Ratio = Cranial Breadth/Cranial Length

ideal ratio - 78%

normal - 73-83%

moderate - 83.1% to 87.9%

severe - 88% and higher

My son only had plagio and the band was covered by insurance. Our doctor

said that yes, it could correct some on its own but since we had the chance

to help Mother Nature speed up the process why not do it?

Brachycephaly parents

Hi all

I was wondering if any of your LO had or have brachycephaly with little

plagiocephaly asymetry? If so did your insurance cover the helmet(s) or did

you have to appeal. If you decided not to helmet did it get better as the

months/years went on. I have tried repositioning my son from months 2 thru

now (7 months) also I have always carried him and he spends minimal time in

a car seat and he hated the swing. It has only stayed the same. One

pediatrician says it will round out by age 3 the other says get the helmet

asap. I am at a loss. My LO has a CI of 94% with a cranial vault of 11.4.

I am under the impression that he fits into the moderate/severe category.

Thanks so much. I am just so nervous about everything as you can see.

Thanks so much christine and molly. I have BCBS which I have been told is one

of the hardest to get approved for brachy. Hoping for the best. Thanks again

for your support. Take care.
