Guest guest
Hello everyone!!! It's been 12 weeks already!!! Time has really flown by. It's amazing how it absolutely CRAWLS before surgery, and then just flies... I am doing great, I eat everything! I can bite through pickles, sandwiches, pizza toppings, EVERTHING! I think my husband is getting a little sick of having me nudge him every time I figure out I can bite through something else. I'm eating a little too much I think, my jeans are getting a little snug! I had an ortho appointment this morning. My ortho said that my teeth/bite look great and he couldn't be happier. YEA! I had been concerned because my molars do not quite touch and I seem to have a slight open bite in reverse... He said it's very common after surgery and they would rather have my molars not touch after surgery rather than hit immediately and we can pull it together, not a problem. Whew! I was a little worried about that one. I now have TWO sets of rubber bands in my mouth. The one set is more in front shaped like triangles. The new set is WAY in back (they had to put in hooks so I could even do this, they kinda suck) and they go from the INSIDE of my upper 2nd molar to the outside of my lower 2nd molar. They actually aren't that bad. At this point it's amazing what I would do/put up with if it makes my braces come off sooner. Although really I don't really care anymore. If they are on for 2 more months or 6 more months, whatever. I just want my teeth to fit together well and have my bite be as functionally perfect as it can be. That said, the day I finally DO get my braces off will be a huge freaking party day and I will be damn happy to have all this behind me. Tentative plan is just a few more months, maybe before the end of the year or just after the beginning of next year. The last couple of weeks I have been having some aches and pains around where my screws and plates are. Nothing major, on a 1-10 pain scale I would say that it occasionally hits a 1, maybe. I think it's just the nerves waking up and figuring out that things are different and `hey, what the hell is this titanium doing here?' kind of a thing. All of my facial numbness is gone. The only numbness I have left is on my upper gums, but now even they are starting to come back. Yes, I realize that many of you want to beat me as you have permanent numbness, I'm sorry! My swelling comes and goes, some days are good, some are not so good. Even on a `bad' day however most people can't really tell I'm swollen until I point it out. I've had more `bad' days lately but I'm fighting a weak but lingering cold so my body is working on fighting that I guess. I've been pooped the last few days too, I think it's the 2 week long cold just getting me down. Not much else to report! I'm doing great and happy that my surgery and majority of recovery is in the past. My hubby and I have moved on with our lives and are working on another big project that will *hopefully* land me in the hospital in 9 or so months, if things work as we hope. I imagine that one will be a little more life changing and sleep depriving. Cori
