Guest guest
I see a lot of new names on the site, as I have been away for a while. As I recover, and get back in to the swing of life, I find it hard to make time to check in on the group. I am 14 weeks post op (8 weeks post wired shut), and I am happy to announce that I will be getting my braces off on August 17th. I am so ready for these braces to be off that I could just rip them off myself! I am still having trouble eating, and I think this is mostly because I still have trouble opening wide enough to bite into anything. I think this will improve once the braces are off, and I don't have rubber bands holding my mouth slightly closed all day long. I only have faint numbness on the right side of my chin and lower lip. Sometimes I don't even realize it is there, and other times it really bothers me. I do still have some minor swelling, but like the numbness, it comes and goes. Some days are worse than others. My gums are also still sensitive, and I am not sure if this is due to the swelling and faint numbness or what. I ate roasted sirloin this weekend, and I actually got through it okay. I think I am finally ready to try filet mignon. I still have trouble with really hard or really chewy foods, but I think this is because I am still getting use to how my jaw moves in its new position. I've got the open and close motion down, but you move side to side also when you chew. It is amazing that I never realized what actually goes in to the process of chewing. It is not until you are forced to notice every detail that you actually get it. I hope you are all recovering well.
