Guest guest
I am new to this list. Excited to be here! I am 45 years old. I had a banded RNY in July 2001. I was 280 and now I am 142 lbs. And, still losing slowly. I am disabled and do not move as much as I should and I know my metabolism is not very fast. But that is okay! I found out this week I have an ulcer right next to my band. My niece who had the same surgery nine months before me went to see our bypass dr yesterday. I had her take the picture in to show the dr. I mainly wanted to know if he wanted to see me before March. He told her my band was corroded in a small section that would have to be removed. My niece said " there is NO way Aunt Jeanie (being me) would EVER let you remove any of the band " . Which is sort of true. I just cried and cried. I am terrified of gaining any weight back. I see the band as my CONTROL. He said he would only need to remove a small section of the band & that my pouch would only stretch a tiny bit and I would not gain weight. UGH. I have TOTAL faith in my doctor. He has been doing these surgeries (changing with the times) for almost 30 years. He is VERY GOOD! But, I am just sick about this. I have had a lower bowel series, an endoscopy & colonoscopy (same day). I have a CATSCAN on Tuesday and meet with the gastro doctor Wednesday for all the results. I am sure he will call my bypass dr about it all PLUS send him a full report. I must explain my fear of gaining a pound. I am an amputee. I have not walked on an artificial leg since 1992. My weight got so very high and some other reasons prevented me from succeeding with the legs. I had walked on artificial legs for 18 years before that. I got three of them and spent a year trying to walk on each one. Unfortunely, I did give up and ended up in a wheelchair...continuing to gain weight. I was in a deep deep pit. Trapped in my house for over ten years. Since losing the weight, I use my crutches MUCH MORE. Hardly ever use my chair when I go out. I am looking into some corrective surgery for all my flab....and, then I want to GET BACK INTO AN ARTIFICIAL LEG and regain my independence!!!! My life is good...but, I have a ways to go & now I am scared. Have any of you ever heard of this before? Dr. Y says the band could be corroded from my vomiting. I still don't eat a whole lot at one time and it has been over two years. Who knows.....if I could eat more maybe that would speed up my metabolism. My body is probably in starvation mode most of the time. I just don't know what is happening! I really am glad to be on this list with you all!
