Re: inplants

I was in braces for 2 years 7 months. I had upper expansion and lower jaw moved

forward. My gumline was also changed.

The braces were not a big deal. Now that the braces are off, the best part is

being able to floss relatively quickly. I had surgery at 51 years old.

Hi to all,

Been lurking and asking some questions for about a week now and perhaps should

explain my situation better. I am 47 years old. I have pretty bad top teeth and

I went to the dentist to see about dental inplants and a prothesis on the upper.

He sent me to orthodontist/oral maxilliofacial of which said in order to do the

inplants, I would need either bone grafts or move my jaw up some. So, in the

surgery he wants to pull my top 3 teeth (they are not very good and will not

last but a few more years anyway). He also wants to move the top jaw forward and

he also wants to insert the inplants. I think that is a LOT of stuff being done

at one surgery. Anyone else having anything like this done? I am scared but I

have had a second opinion and that dentist says the same thing: its either bone

grafts or surgery. Also, my jaw is quite out of line w/bottom jaw. I brought

this up now because I have recently noticed that there are some women/men in the

group that are around my age. The only

positive I see here is that I am not in braces and do not have to worry about

being " wired " .

Thanks for the input.

Hi Hope,

I am 52 and am looking at upper and lower surgery and lower septal

rhinoplasty repair in one surgery. I was concerned about doing this

much at once but my OMS says this is very doable in one surgery. If

you are concerned about the length of your surgery, definately ask

your surgeon. They should be really clear with you about this so

that it doesn't leave you feeling anxious about the length of

surgery or the intensity of the procedures. Along with lower jaw

surgery that will move my lower forward, rotated to the right and

lengthened, my upper will be moved forward, segmented to give more

contour, and have bone augmentation supplied from my hip. I will

also have the lower septal rhinoplasty at the same surgery. I will

need a second rhinoplasty done, but he said that would have to be at

a later date. So depending on your OMS, they will be able to say

which of your procedures can safely and effectively be done at one

time, and which need to be postponed for another surgery if you see

what I mean.

Yes, by all means, if you do not have to have braces and the long

preop waiting time, it would make this a LOT easier of a process.

The surgery recovery is something we all have to deal with, but the

preop waiting is really a difficult thing sometimes. That would be

great for you if you don't have to do that part of it! Really nice!

Hugs,

Fran
