Guest guest
Greetings all, Sorry I haven't written, was kind of out of it Wed. thru Sun.; Mon and Tues. I had too many other things to catch up. When they say days 3-5 are the worst...believe it, but it's all behind and I feel better every day! Had my surgery on Nov. 2nd around 1:00 pm, was in the critical care unit until Thursday, Nov. 3rd and Doc asked if I wanted to stay (go to a regular room) or go home. Chose to come home. Everything went as planned except the fact that I had the worst nose and sinuses to work around (sinuses are very small, but sinus cavity is big). The tubes that they put in your nose for your breathing and your stomach caused some major bleeding in my nose so it took them an hour to get that squared away (I was of course under). OS moved my upper ahead 5 mm and up 5 mm, moved bottom out something like 17 mm, I believe he expanded my upper and put a chin implant in. Needless to say, went to the OS yesterday and saw the results on xray! My breathing passage went from 4-5 mm to a whopping 15-17 mm!!!!! What an amazing before and after xray. Can tell a difference in my breathing already!! Just wished this nose would heal up. Getting kind of tired of this liquid diet, but was finally able to dring through a straw this morning (was using a small food baster previously). Actually had some mashed potatoes on Mon., boy I never realized how much we take eating for granted. Might try scrambled eggs maybe by Fri/Sat. I'm banded shut with minumum movement, but if I can get them in the mouth and squish them on the roof of my mouth, I just might be able to add one more food item to the diet. I've lost about 5-6 lbs so far, but that's OK, I did my fair share of eating and gaining pre-op. Right now, just trying to keep a steady flow of liquids, vitamins and nutrients to heal quickly. I took pre-op, 1-day post-op and 5-day post-op pics that I will try to upload as soon as I can...right now I'm going to go take a rest and apply some heat...been sleeping a little better each night, but still have bouts of pain in my ears (due to banding) and my right side still being swollen. Oh, fyi on the ice...heat dilemna. My OS instructed me to use ice for the first 48 hours, but definitely heat after that. He said that ice for too long will cause infections. Which makes sense, because after you control the amount of swelling, you want the blood to flow to the area to heal. I notice that when I use the heat...yes I feel like I puffed up a little, but after about 15 minutes or so it goes down and I definitely feel better. Sorry for such a long post, but I wanted to let everyone know how I was doing. Thanks for everyone's support!!!! Sandy PS - Regarding my son's College Soccer Semi-Finals, unfortunately they lost 2-1, but my daughter taped most of it (until the battery died) so I did get to see it. They played an AWESOME game, but 2 yellow cards on one of their guys (which neither one was deserved - I should send a copy of the tape to the officials) caused them to have to play one man down for the last 20 min. of the game and couldn't hang on....Oh, well, they made it that far...the first in a very, very long time.
