Guest guest
Mimi, I think hyperlexia is not known real well and it is difficult to get a diagnosis. Just like Asbergers and Autism there are definate extremes. For my nephew, his issues are really how he interacts with people. I could be at the house for hours and the only reason he would acknowledge me was if he needed something. He will be in a room of children playing and won't even look at them. Like I said all of this is hard to diagnose. They have also said that he might have something called Einstein Syndrome (I'm not sure if the sydrome is a theory or scientifically studied.) I think kids are all different and they show that even at a young age. Kids that grow into engineers are usually the ones that unassembled every appliance in the house and never put them back together. Kids that refuse to " match " their clothes at an early age may be showing their artistic flair. Maybe Isaac will grow up to be a successful accountant who like to wear suits! With all of our kids we need to watch for the behaviour that just doesn't seem to be " right " while allowing them to be different. You could certainly ask the speech therapist if she notices anything that is a red flag to her. Or ask your friends and parents of his playmates. I know that my sister in law was sort of the last to notice. Many people had been commenting and when her son was about 3 we spoke with her suggesting that she just check it out so he could get all the best help as early as possible. And as I said before, he has improved in so many ways. Pattie > > > > > > Hi all, > > > > > > While we saw Dr H on Friday, she also weighed/measured . > No > > > surprise, she wasn't happy.
