Guest guest
Hi Stacey That sounds horrible!! and almost unbelievable. I am so so so sorry. I don't know how well you know your dentist and I'm sure he/she is very competent but I would get a second opinion and also go see your oral surgeon again who performed the surgery and see what he has to say. It all sounds very serious and I would think that if this sort of risk existed pre-op they would have told you. Do you suffer from osteoporosis? I do know that wearing braces for a very long time can be detrimental to your teeth. I've had mine on for a total of 11 years so far and my teeth and gums have definitely become very sensitive over time. My orthodontist did also tell me to be wary about over-doing it with the flossing as when done too much can be harmful to the gums contrary to what a lot of dentists say. So I restrict my flossing to only once a week now and I wasn't allowed to floss at all the first 3 months post-op because I couldn't feel my gums. Funnily enough I just went for my first teeth cleaning since the surgery and the dentist said I hardly had any plaque build up so I guess even without the flossing I was doing a good job. What has your dentist said you can do to stop the bone and gum eroding? I just don't understand how something like this could have happened and I am so sorry that it happened to you after all the stuff you had to go through. Keep us posted! Sending you a huge hug.
