Spider-man challenges you to get healthy New Web site urges kids to eat better and exercise more Your challenge this week: Instill some healthy habits in your 6- to 11-year-old. Need some help? How about a little motivation from Spider-Man? The Advertising Council and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently launched the SmallStep Challenge program, which encourages healthy eating and exercise in children. Through the end of March, kids can log on each day to answer questions about healthy eating. Doing so can get them entered into a contest that in turn could lead to Spider-Man visiting their school. We think it's a super idea. As the site's name implies, getting healthy isn't about leaping over doughnut shops in one bound. It's about making small, incremental lifestyle changes, like adding more fruit and veggies to your diet or taking the kids on a weekly walk to the park. After your child plays the challenge, there's plenty more to see at the site, including links to information about healthy eating and information on how to get hooked up to play calorie-burning sports. There are kid-friendly recipes, too. Once you've spent some time hanging out at the site, turn the computer off and put the information to use. Go on a walk, then come home and have a tasty fruit-and-dip snack as a family.
