Guest guest
Hello! I'm new to the list and new to SCD. I found out about SCD via GAPS and as I've been researching, I'm starting to wonder if SCD might not be better for me than GAPS. I have a 2 year old who still nurses and we are TTC our next LO. Thanks be to God, nobody in my family has severe GI or Asperger issues of any kind, however, I've always suffered from candida and now it seems my toddler is too. She also had very bad colic as a baby and probably reflux. Purely by instinct I have not allowed her to eat any sweets, though very occasionally one of her grandparents has sneaked her something or other. I have started letting her have honey in the past couple of weeks to get her to take some coconut oil (in the form of coconut bark), but that is not very often either. Despite not having any intestinal issues that I know of, I do suffer from the blues and very low energy which has only gotten lower since I gave birth. What I thought was PPD seems to be dragging on and on and now I think that maybe I have some sort of underlying nutritional deficiency. I usually eat only fermented or soaked grains, but based on recommendations in the Mood Cure, I gave up grains and dairy and to be honest feel a bit better. Not night and day difference, but I have noticed changes like fewer headaches and slightly more energy. The times since then that I've eaten grains I've definitely felt worse and on a particularly bad day when I had fried chicken (cornmeal batter) and white toast I experienced severe cramping and nausea. All this, combined with the candida, makes me think that I may benefit from SCD. One of the reasons I am not drawn to GAPS is because I think I will probably be either nursing or pregnant for many years to come and I am worried about the severe detox effects I've read about from people who follow the diet. Plus, I think that GAPS will be too difficult for me, especially while pregnant. So, my question to you all is whether you think that based on this info I and my toddler would benefit from SCD and if so, would it be safe for me to start now on the gradual introduction based on the pecanbread protocol? Many thanks!
