Guest guest
Hello Everyone! First off, I am so thankful to have been directed to this group - what a wonderful resource with so many amazing stories! I first noticed that Quinn's head (right side) looked a bit flat when she was 3.5 months old. I mentioned it to our doctor who referred us to a pediatrician. The pediatrician said that it was a moderate to severe case and referred us to physio. Since then we've only had 2 physio appointments. We've been propping her up religiously and it has made some difference, but unfortunately the spot is still there. When we were at the first physio appt. they mentioned that her ears and forehead were actually misaligned (which I had not noticed). I've been reading a lot about this topic online and have made another appointment with our pediatrician for next Monday. I'm going to ask to be referred to a specialist in either Toronto or Ottawa. I'm just wondering if anyone has had experiences at either of these places? Do they do the DOC band or STAR band? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance! Quinn's mum, Jen. Guest guest
It is within the pediatrician's purview to prescribe the treatment, and *your* decision whether the treatment is necessary. Referral to a specialist would probably be an unnecessary delay, and you're in the optimal treatment period right now. If they thought it was something that might require a special scan or surgery (typically, craniosynostosis), they would have sent you there initially. -- Thad Launderville Montpelier, VT Clara age 2, STARband '10 On Apr 25, 2010, at 7:58 PM, flygirl_yvr wrote: > I've been reading a lot about this topic online and have made > another appointment with our pediatrician for next Monday. Guest guest
Hi Thad, Thanks for the advice. As far as I'm aware, the clinic in Toronto will only see us if we have been referred by a doctor. We also require a " prescription " for the band in order for it to be covered by our insurance. We have decided to go through with the treatment as we also believe that she is at the optimal age! Guest guest
I know we've already chatted about this, but just in case anyone else is interested - Sick Kids in Toronto actually makes their own orthotics. In case anyone is going expected a DOCband or STARband. They look a lot like hockey helmets! > > > I've been reading a lot about this topic online and have made > > another appointment with our pediatrician for next Monday.
