It's starts working within 10 minutes and soothes you, and it doesn't interfere with any of the anesthesia. Then make sure you tell the nurse at the hospital that you took it, and about your fear, and ask if the anesthesiologist can put in the IV. Like I said, the nurse just gave me the rest of the calming meds with a shot in my hip, and once I got to the operating room and had the IV finally hooked up and was feeling to lazy to even talk.
