Guest guest
I don’t know if exercise is causing a symptom flare for you, but it may be contributing to it. I do know that exercise can be too much for us when we are symptomatic or still healing, even with what seems the mildest form of exercise. Our bodies only have so much energy available, and if it is dealing with disease there isn’t much left over to provide resources during exercise – so symptoms tend to worsen if we are doing more exercise than our bodies can handle at the time. Not only have do I struggle with this issue myself, but I’ve come across a discussion of this issue in the medical literature as I’ve done research. Can you drop back to once or twice a week Jazzercise sessions for a while, and see if that helps? Maybe three times a week is just too much for your body right now. You should be able to resume three times a week after your symptoms resolve. Granted I have neuromuscular problems and functional digestive disorders, so my experience isn’t quite the norm, but I’ve found that despite having my digestive symptoms under control my body just doesn’t have the energy resources for frequent or intense exercise. For a few years now, 20-minute walks once or twice a day is about all my body will handle, although that is still a major improvement from six years ago when I couldn’t walk a block without collapsing. But I have wanted to do more exercise if I can find something my body will handle, so I’ve been trying different things. I recently started a tai chi class (for older adults, so very low impact) but have found my body just doesn’t have the energy resources to allow me to take the class twice or three times a week – once is all it will tolerate, and even then I have to take it slower and rest more often than usual, and it still takes me 20 to 30 minutes to recover after the session, just as I do after a 20-minute walk. Still, tai chi isn’t triggering upper abdominal pain or intense muscle cramps, so I’ll stick with it for a while, even if I have to do it a lot more slowly than normal and practice less often. Exercise is important on so many levels, but sometimes our bodies can only handle so much-- a lot less than we would like. Kim M. I take it in the am for sleeplessness. I recently started a light excerize class- Jazzercise- about 3 mornings a week. I know heavy work outs can bring on a flare, but this is light and I go at my own pace. I like the social/mental health benefits of seeing friends there and moving to the music gives me a lift. I know LDN blocks the receptors, but is it possible I am interferring with it? I would hate to stop as I really look forward to it. I also know about yeast and I am cutting down on carbs, adding coconut oil.. Thanks, PJ
