Guest guest
Hi , I'm 11 days post-op. I had the upper and lower jaw done, I had an expansion done 3 years ago. The upper part of my face is still swollen, it doesn't look like it except people that know me can tell I don't look the same. The same area is numb, but I can feel touch. My lip and chin and absolutely numb .... very freaky and disturbing. How is everything going with you, with your swelling and numbness. Do you have much pain? Can you smile yet? I can't smile from the upper swelling. How's your diet going? Guest guest
Hi Pam I hear you with the numbing and the frustration. I have not had any pain at all, but I seem to have a constant tooth ache like feeling in the right side of my face. I am going to see my surgeon tomorrow so I will ask him what that is. I am still pretty swollen, the right side of my face more so than the left because they had to cut twice. I find it difficult smilling and talking, even though it does not stop me, but everyone says I sound like I just got out of the dentist chair, which I guess is pretty close to the mark. The eating is not a problem, I just hate the way everything seems to take so long, first the eating and then the rinsing and cleaning of your mouth. How are you copping with it all? Are you happy so far with the outcome? > > > > Hey everyone, > > > > > > > > I am having upper jaw surgery (3-piece lefort, palate > expansion, > > and all > > > > wisdom teeth taken out) on October 3rd. Guest guest
Hi , I have a bit of an 'ache' in my right side too, I think it is at the incision site and is a bit swollen (the Dr. said). I try to clean that area extra during the 'rinse' cycle. I can't say yet that I'm 'happy' with the outcome because of the loss of feeling. If I could get over that part, which will take time, then I can decide how I feel. I'm certain happy that it's over. Are you eating with a syringe? I hear people say they are trying to spoon it in, a syringe works very well. Are you using any protein supplements at all? I don't need to lose weight, and I think I lost the 10 pounds I built up over the summer during my 4 days at the hospital. My husband bought a protein powder that I'm trying to fit into my milkshakes. I'm only 11 days and whining, can't imagine what I'll be like in another week! Guest guest
Hey Pam, keep your chin up. you are allowed to feel this way. Everyday I feel like i am copping better. I am eating normal tuff though. I never used the syringes. I have bands in my mouth that keep me from openning it up my mouth too much, but I can just fit little bits of food in. I was scared the first week and basically kept to soups. Its kind of cold here in Australia at the moment, so creamy pumkpin soup and creamy leak and potatoe soup are going down really well and for breakfast i am just having those up and go drinks which are protein based or really runny scramble eggs or porridge. I am like you I gained 5 kgs during my holidays a couple of months back and have already lost them, so I have to eat well because I can not afford to loose any more. I have also started to take my mutivitamins. Yes I surprised myself that I could put them in my mouth and actually take them with a drink of water. My surgeon was very strict and did not want me to get use to using syringes, so he made me from day one I used cups and spoons to eat. I did not like him at first but I now understand why. Last night I even mae a barramundi fish in the oven and it turned out really soft and I ate it with mashed potatoes. I love my food, so I am finding different ways to try and eat. nything i can break with the roof of my mouth and tongue with out much effort seem to be working. I am like you with regards to the numbness. It drives me nuts when I can not talk properly and when I am trying to kiss my husband and kids and I can not feel anything. I am however today starting to feel some tingling on my lips so I guess thats a good sign. I am also feeling tighter in my lower jaw. Are you finding that? How is your pain? Do you have any? Are you working? > > > > > > Hey everyone, > > > > > > > > > > > > I am having upper jaw surgery (3-piece lefort, palate > > > expansion, > > > > and all > > > > > > wisdom teeth taken out) on October 3rd. Guest guest
Hi , Why did your surgeon not want you to use a syringe...I am guessing it is so you exercise your jaw and get used to gumming the food. I haven't had any potatoe soup, but now I'm craving it. I just had cr. of mushroom. I'm not sure if I'm feeling 'tighter' in my lower jaw. But if I don't take my pain pills (xtra str. tylenol) I can certainly feel my jaw muscles. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, so that is not my main gripe at the moment. As far as my pain - if my tylenol has worn off, like first thing in the morning, I will have a headache, my jaw hurts, my incisions throb - but not terribly. I would tolerate more pain for more feeling, you know? I was working 1-day/week, but it is on hold now until November 1st, when I will start working 2-days/week. Fortunately for me, my job is very flexible, and I can also work from home. So, if by November 1st I'm not ready to go to the office I feel I have an option to work from home. I haven't built up any energy yet to cook, I am barely feeding myself at the moment. I'm hoping by this week I will feel better. How about you, do you work too? You have children, right? Mine are 5 & 7 and very busy. They've been getting alot of t.v. the last little while. Thanks for the note Pam > > > > > > > Hey everyone, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I am having upper jaw surgery (3-piece lefort, palate > > > > expansion, > > > > > and all > > > > > > > wisdom teeth taken out) on October 3rd.
