hi all,

my name is jacqui,i am 18 and living in ireland. i have recently

been to my orthodontist who recommends that i have lower jaw

surgerydone to correct my overjet of 7 mm.when i was 10-15 years of

age i went to a different orthodontist who extracted 4 teeth

and " corrected " the problem.i wore every appliance and did what i as

told, but unfort my teeth have moved out again. This new orthodonist

sas that the previous 1 did a poor job and should have made me n

immediate candidate for surgery. The fist ortho didnt care about

patiebts as it was a frr public service. I have saved money from

various jobs, and can now afford an expert. However i do not know

anyone who has had jaw surgery and it sounds very extreme and

drastic to me. i suggsted to the orthodontist that we wud not do

surgery but he than said this may mean little change nd at most

50%.i just want some one with answers hlp me as i am scared.i am v

angry that i ahve been through all the treatments as child for as

long as five years and have not got proper results. If anyone has

been through a similar case i would really like to know ie how

painul is it?how much recovery time needed?Etc.

Thanks a million.

email me at jacquikelly18@...

i would really appreciate it as i am clueless on this matter

About a year ago I was suggested to have jaw surgery, just the lower

jaw moved out. Then about 3 months ago, my doctor said we need to go

ahead and have upper and lower jaw surgery. I was very distressed at

first about the whole situation, but decided to go ahead and have it

done, as it was the easiest ( getting it all done in one surgery as

opposed to 2) and most bennificial way (very low percentage of

relapse). A month later I was in the operating room. Now I'm 5 weeks

post op, and very happy with the results and very close to being done

with the whole recovery. I would recommend no other way if you

situation calls for it.
