Guest guest
Hi Pam, I just had a lower jaw advancement and starting on the 3rd week I was told to start jaw exercises. On Monday I could only open 15mm, Tuesday was 20, Wed. was 24 Thursday 28, Friday 30, Sat 32, Sun I can now open to 37. I found the openning improved very fast but then I did physiotherapy everyday last week and he did alot of maneuvering. When I first get up in the morning I still only open to about 24 but after a few stretches it opens right up to 32 at least. The pysio guy has me using tongue depressors stacked on top of each other. I put in about 15 and bite on them and hold for a minute and then add anouther one and hold, etc. until you can't do any more. The surgeon said that once I could consistantly open to 30 I could get this splint out so I get my splint off tomorrow! It really is disgusting how much food is trapped in the bottom of it! Guest guest
Hi , thanks for the info. I'm 7 weeks and only opening 17 mm, so maybe I will try the tongue depressor exercise (I've only just been given the o.k. to exercise). You will feel so good when you get your splint off! It feels a bit wierd for the first day, but after that your speech improves so fast. (what a motivator to get you to exericse your jaw)!
