Guest guest
Hi everyone, a little about myself and my jaw issue: my name is jessica, i'm 23 and live in montreal, canada. I'm about to have upper-jaw surgery to expand the upper jaw on Monday morning, 7am (oct. 24th). I've already been fitted with a palette expander so the expansion is gonna be a mixture of surgery and orthodontics cuz as my surgeon explained this makes the result much more stable, less risky, and promotes the gradual growth of the bones instead of scar tissue. so basically, during the surgery, once the jaw is cut and you're able to move things, he'll be turning the key several times to start off teh expanision). apparently, though, i won't even be hospitalized after it's done but once i " come to " , i'm able to go home. he said i could go back to work anywhere from 7-14 days according to the different experiences he's seen, but everything i'm reading seems to point to much longer. anyway, i hope it's not SUPER long cuz i can't take off too much time. once this is done, i'm not done though..in about a year or so i'll need a second surgery to raise the upper jaw (and reduce gumminess) and also fit it better with the lower jaw (and so therefore this time they may also decide to do lower jaw surgery). intially, i was supposed to get upper and lower surgery like five years ago but i backed out cuz got super afraid of the whole thing, but then regretted teh decision, so now i'm doing it. i now really wish i had gone thru the whole thing earlier cuz i've had to get braces again which i have to pay for, but at least the surgery itself is covered by canadian healthcare. so long story short, with this new doctor (who i prefer much more than the one i was going to have five yrs ago since that guy was super rude and arrogant), instead of one major surgery to correct all my jaw issues, it's now divided into two smaller surgeries cuz he finds this should produce a better result and is much less risky for damage to teeth, nerves, etc. anyway, it's strange cuz i'm not really feeling nervous about teh surgery at all tho i know i will be on monday morning or tomorrow nite before going to sleep..my main worries are the pain afterwards and stuff like that.. i just went food shopping and got a bunch of stuff to prepare for teh soft diet phase...i still have to clean my apartment though..blah so much to do and no time..haha.. anyway, that's pretty much it for now. nice to meet you all. i'm gonna read some of the msgs posted before.
