Emerence - semi-answers psedoepiphyses of the metacarpals/Chat/vent

Hi,

Spoke with the geneticist yesterday and she spent 1.5 hours with the

top bone doc at Childrens in Boston reviewing xrays and books and

syndromes. They are fairly certain Emerence does not have any of

hte very rare syndromes that P ..M appears in and Dr. Stanhope says

it could occur in SGA but more common in RSS. It means her growth

plates are funny shaped on the bones of the fingers closest tot he

palm. HOWEVER, they both wanted to follow up with xrays of her long

bones. I asked if they could be done today and yes xray was open so

I planned to take Emerence into Boston thsi afternoon.

Long story but I had to work today but had put in extra hours

earlier this week so I could leave at 12:30. Well yesterday she

woke up with a rash on chest and neck - I had given her a

strawberry drinkable go gurt (1st time) and I was sure it was a

reaction tot hat. Well, the daycare wouldn't take her without a

note. I had talked to the back up at 6 am of the dr office (their

backup is Children's hosptial!) and I was told that with no fever

and no pain it was definitely allergic but to have her seen that

night. Well her dr. agrees to fax a note but the daycare calls me

at 9:15 am and tells me I have to come get her that they won't wait

for the note and I have to have her seen and then get a note. I

just started a new job and don't tget time off until Jan 11 (3 month

anniv). So I rush over, pick her up, take her to the dr. and the

dr. (different than her normal ped and 1 year out of school) won't

write a note and thinks she has strep. We take the test, negative,

she puts her on amoxycillan (which doesn't work for her anyway!!Q)

just in case. Negative today so t hey call and tell us to stop -

but now it gave her diarhea! WEll, I pick them up at 1 and floor it

to Boston. We go to do the xray and her anxiety kicks in and

althought bless my friend who took them for the day - she got her to

eat 2 whole chicken nuggest plus pasta and cucumber slices - she

screamed so much it all came up. Along with her snacks. All those

calories just gone...

Well, the xrays went well and my 5 year old got to " help " (he let

the techs know when they started to develop and show up on the

screen! We finally get out of there and my son, who has now been

complaining of a headache and now sore throat is now complaning so

much (even with tylenol) I called the dr. office fro m the highway

and we swung in so he could have a strep test (someone at his class

has it). Well, we dont' even make it home (only 10 min) and my

husband calls....his truck is out of oil (hm, that explains teh

splotch on the driveway). Well, he decided to buy oil and put it in

just enought to drive the 15 min home. Well, he did and theoil just

went through. So I get home call AAA for a tow and feel teh kids

while waiting for him to be rescued. Finally I go meet him where

they tow the truck and the tow driver tells me MY HUSBAND PUT OIL IN

WHERE THE ANTIFREEZE GOES, APPARENTLY THE ANTIFREEZE HAD LEAKED OUT

(well, spotch didn't look greenish though either...). I wanted to

scream and have a fit. WHY? If you dont' know what you are doing -

WHY!? I cant' even imagine how much this willl cost for a repair.

It is ours, all 135K of it. We can't add antoher payment. And they

can't look at it until Monday. And, I am supposed to have a rare

night out with the girls tomorrow. And he has to work all day

tomorrow (bye by my minivan). If wakes up with Strep I

think I will actully be happy because it is something fixable - give

antibiotics, get better. Now if we could just give the truck some

antifreeze ...but I think the damage my husband might have done

warrants more work that that. AND to top it off, he was FURIOUS I

wrote a note (withe the keys to leave in the drop box) that spelled

out exactly what he did. He said the mechanci should have been able

to figure it out and he will rob us - my family has used this guy

for about 20 years - he NEVER overcharges, does stuff for free (like

if you buy windshield wipers and bring them to him he'll put them

on), had loaned me his own truck for the day while we minivan was

being repaired, and he has even saved me money when I have come and

said, I was told to do xyz by the dealerhip but I would reather pay

you - and he told me that $1600 of the $2000 quoted was unnecessary -

why my husband thinks he woudl rob us is beyond me...

Back to Emerence, we find out Tuesday what today's xrays bring...let

you all know...sorry for the rambings...rantings....raviings....
