Guest guest
Hi, I had upper jaw surgery done about four monthes ago to get rid of my gummy smile and midface length. The surgery was 2 years in planning and I wore braces for that amount of time. I remember I told the doctor I did not like the length of my face which is a combintion of my upper and lower jaws. He said he didn't think he had to do lower jaw surgery on me, just upper and he would do a genioplasty to take care of the lower jaw. He promised this would shorten the lower jaw. now all the swelling is gone and I still have a face and a very long lower jaw. The genioplasty just made my chin longer and more pointed. I am very upset. From the pictures I've seen of other people who have gotten this surgery, their faces got fuller and shorter, but mine is still long. Now I think I need lower jaw surgery to shorten my lower jaw. I'm just really disappointed with my surgeon now because he told me that doing surgery on just the upper jaw would make my face normal and proportional, but it didn't! I would like to do lower jaw surgery now, but do I go with the same surgeon? I have really lost confidence in his ability, I don't think he has an 'eye'for detail or aesthetics either. The worst thing is, I already have my braces off (my bite was already perfect from before, it was only my jaw itself that was messed up.)so now, do I go back to him again or do I get a new maxillofacial surgeon? I don't want to start using braces all overagain! Surely there must be surgeons who do these surgeries without braces, especially if your bite is normal, isn't there? Another question real quick, for all of you who have had upper jaw surgery: did you notice your cheekbones are higher? (I mean in a bad way). I have these awful grooves or hollows in my cheeks now making my face look really gaunt and elongated. I was under the impression this surgery made your face fuller, not gaunter... maybe my surgeon is just really bad.
Guest guest
Hi, I had upper done four months ago and was told that lower jaw didn't need moving however now my surgeon is talking about lower jaw surgery. But I am having problems with my jaw joints maybe that's why. Before the surgery (due to my cleft) I didn't have cheek bones but my surgeon did some work on them and what with it being upper jaw thta also helped. But I now have dents under both my eyes and they are very noticable and a lot of people are commenting on them. When I mentioned this to the surgeon he agreed with what I was saying and went on to say that some patients need revisions after the surgery and I was one of them. __________________________________________________
