My daughter, Rylee, will be getting her helmet next week. I am more

excited than I am nervous. I focus on " fixing " her skull, rather than

anything negative. That way, I don't get sad or frustrated.

Although our insurance company has not yet covered the helmet,I think

they will in the end! I used a letter from the " Insurance Issues " and

made it fit our family. I also added 7 pages of documentation to

support the level of severity and the fact that the helmet IS a

covered benefit (which is why they denied it the first time, stating

that it was not a covered benefit). I sent the letter to 3 different

UHC locations, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, our Pediatrician, the

Regional Human Resources Manager for my husband's company, and the

Georgia State Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner. We'll see how

it goes. My fingers hurt from being crossed for so long!!!

Is anyone from Atlanta? If so, did you use the CHOA Orthotics and

Prosthetics Department? What did you think? So far, they seem very

competant and knowledgable. THANK GOODNESS!!!

Did anyone pay a company to decorate your child's helmet? Is it worth

it? I don't want Rylee's helmet to be bland, nor do I want it to be

tacky.

I am sooo happy to have found this site. I thought I'd never find any

other parents to talk to about it. So, thank you!

Glad to hear Rylee is on the road to a nice round head! I'm pulling

for your insurance to come through.

I painted my son's DOCBands myself, it's really inexpensive to do

that way and I just knew I would be obsessive about keeping it neat

and chip-free, so I was able to change up his designs regularly

without breaking the bank. Some moms have had them painted

professionally and they turn out great, but I'm not sure how long

they last. I would change Jake's paint job every 3 weeks.

Good luck with the fitting! Please keep us posted!

As far as decorating goes, if you dont want to deal with decorating on your own.... I contacted through email all the local custom motorcycle shops who did airbrushing. I think I typed in google 'airbrush motorcycle az'. Something like that anyway. I also looked through craigslist for airbrush artists. I just ran the scenario by them and asked how much they would charge, turn around time, etc... I contacted several and three people responded. I chose a shop closest to me and they also donated their services! I get tons of compliments on the helmet and CT just swoons over it every time I go in for an adjustment. They are also referring new patients to that shop now. (I have no idea if they are still dontaing their services but they probably arent charging much). I have to admit I was scared that I

gave the bikers "creative freedom" but in the end I LOVE how it turned out. The helmet is very shiny and has held up really well. (see new pic I added to Plagio Babies C - Cole MacKay)Good luck!- Cole has been in his DOCband since 12/1/08From: erin6918 <erin6918@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Wednesday, January 7, 2009 7:31:12 AMSubject: Rylee gets her helmet next week!!!
