I took the cousin to Prozac--Zoloft back in the 90's for depression

and I am certain it contributed to my steady weight gain

=====================================================

I took Zoloft for about a year and a half after Leah was born. Very bad

post partum. Anyway, when I started it I lost 20 lbs and was so excited.

My doctor said at the time (1996, 1997) that they were doing testing to

possibly use this as a weight loss drug. Well within a few weeks after

that, the honeymoon was over and the weight came back and then some. By

the time I had stopped taking it, I packed on another 35-40 lbs on an

already super morbidly obese body.

Also of interest, a few other people I knew who were taking it around

the same time I was had different problems. It seemed that the Zoloft

targeted your weaknesses and intensifed them. Mine was food, so I had

the weight gain. A friend of mine was beer, and she knew she wasn't

supposed to be drinking while on this medication, but it was like she

was out of control and drinking a six pack or more a night. Another

friend started craving food like me that was her weakness and yet

another one started smoking again after having stopped for over six

years. We all asked our doctors about this and told them what we were

noticing and they all poo-pooed us. After we all went off the Zoloft, my

one friend and I lost some weight, but obviously not much : ), my friend

stopped the excessive drinking, the other one managed to stop smoking

again. Coincidence? Who knows. My brother started taking Zoloft and he

has a weight problem that he has been able to manage with the Atkins

program and he started packing on weight within weeks of going on the

Zoloft. Told him of my experience and his doctor changed is scrip.

Thought you may be interested in this.
