Guest guest
Hello Everyone and Good Morning, I'm a single mom with a 6 month old daughter. We have been turning and rotating and doing everything we could to help the plagiocephaly since she was 6 weeks old. And we did get some improvement - the egg shape evened out to an oval but that's about it. My daughter also has torticollis which has spread down her side to cause some asymmetrical development between her left and right sides. We needed a predetermination for the insurance to cover the band and they completely stepped up to the plate and paid 80%! I was so shocked I had to ask the insurance representative to repeat it three times. So my daughter is getting her DOC band this afternoon and we are really looking forward to seeing what results we can get from the band. As for the torticollis, she has been getting weekly checks from a free therapist with ECI (Early Childhood Intervention) and the ECI therapist meets my daughter at daycare so there is no interruption to her routine or unfamiliar people/places and the therapist also checks that the care providers all know how to do the stretches and exercises correctly. If the asymmetrical development doesn't improve by 9 months I'll be asking our pediatrician to put in a predetermination for the need of physical therapy since our efforts from 6 weeks old have not been successful (physical therapy is not covered by insurance unless it's needed due to a hospitalization). I'm curious as to what is the easiest way to decorate the band? I think stickers would be easiest to change when the mood strikes us. But I have also considered buying the appropriate paints and asking a graduate art student (I'm a PhD student)to paint a mural based on a sketch we both agree on for maybe $50ish dollars. I am strongly leaning towards stickers but wonder if they would like kind of cheap. I haven't seen any decorated bands up close but all the pictures I see look cute but I can't tell if some of them are stickers or paint.
