Guest guest
Hi all, I am new to this group, I too have a support group set up on Facebook, " Plagiocephaly Awareness & Support " . I am so glad when I see other groups. My husband and I are currently debating getting a second band or not. My son got his band in Nov. at 9 months, he has had it for 4 months and is scheduled to graduate in 2 weeks if we don't decide to do a second band. He has had great improvements but still qualifies for another band. I'm ready for him to live a " normal " life (be able to swim this summer)but I also want him to get all the improvements he can. We have to fly every 2 weeks for our adjustments in Dallas that's another factor, and I know that the older he is the slower improvements are. We are so torn as to what to do. Anyone out there have any suggestions on how to make this an easier decision?
Guest guest
What are his measurements? how do you feel or see his head for yourself? Same ehre at 4 months I was really fine with the helmet but then started to really miss her and nuzzling her hair. But it's important so we'll see next month what the numbers arekimmiFrom: rmoore0708 <rmoore0708@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Sun, March 13, 2011 8:36:15 PMSubject: Debating a 2nd Band! Guest guest
The first thing that comes to my mind, is, " Will you regret it if you don't do it? " Since you are considering the 2nd band, I can only assume that finances are not a deciding factor (e.g., having to fly every two weeks). Maybe try listing the pros & cons for each decision (band vs. no band) and assign a number value to each one. Then total it up and see which side wins? Easier said than done, I know, when you are faced with such an emotional issue. But you asked for ways to make the decision easier... just a suggestion. :-) I can tell you my son's story as a way to encourage you. But only you can make the decision that is best for you & your family. I'm assuming your son is 13 months now... that was my son's age when he received his FIRST band. Am I reading between the lines correctly that you're concerned that he won't get correction and will it all be worth it? There are no guarantees, but I can tell you that my son received great correction even at an older age. Tyler was 13 months when he received his first band. They told us to expect him to be in 2 bands. When he was nearing the completion of his first band, our tech was poo-poo'ing the idea of a 2nd band. She said he already looked great and the second wouldn't give great results. I fought for it anyway. I knew I still wasn't happy with his head shape and I was mentally prepared for 2 bands anyway, so why not go for it? I knew his head was still going to grow and I wanted to capture that growth. I am so happy I pushed for the 2nd band. We have seen great results from it. He will have his exit appt Mar 28 and this time I can say that I'm happy with his head shape (it still isn't perfect, but I know we've done all we can do at this point) and it looks so much better than when we first started and even after the first band was done. So, he will have been banded for 7.5 months. You also mentioned concerns about being able to swim... I know others will disagree... but I don't think it's that big of a deal to take the band off for an hour here or there once or twice a week so your son can enjoy the pool, especially since he's a bit older and his rate of growth is slower anyway. The chance that you'd miss a lot of growth in those " pool hours " is probably pretty slim. Hope that helps. Best of luck to you. Guest guest
We are in the same boat. It was a REALLY hard decision, but my husband and I have decided not to do a second band. We miss seeing our lil ones head. He looks cute with the band on, but sooo cute with it off. Not just that though, we are happy with the improvements. Cranial Tech did his AFTER pics and he has made such an improvement, we can live with that, and with him being 6 months and still growing, we think it'll only get even better. Our Cranial Tech is right around the corner. I couldn't even imagine flying every 2 weeks. If you think that you'll regret it in the end, I'd go ahead and do it. If you're really happy with the results and you won't beat yourself every day about not getting the second band, don't get it. Any decision you make will be the right one. Trust your instincts mama good luck! --
Guest guest
We decided to do a second band but were fortunate to be only 45 minutes away. I know it is a tough choice to make. Our son got his second band at 7 months which was sooner than your son. As we got closer to his graduation date and he really had outgrown the second band, the growth was much slower. When we began we were on the severe side and fell into the normal ranges after the two bands. Good luck. Whatever choice you make will be the right one for your family:) From: rmoore0708 <rmoore0708@...>Subject: Debating a 2nd Band!Plagiocephaly Date: Sunday, March 13, 2011, 10:36 PM Hi all, I am new to this group, I too have a support group set up on Facebook, "Plagiocephaly Awareness & Support".
