Guest guest
My Daughter is going to get a helmet tomorrow and she is seven months now. I am freaking out because i feel like i am the worse mother in the world because my child needs a helmet. i feel like i could of done more like hold her or not put her in the swing or just items that push on the back of her head. dont get me wrong, we definitely hold our child but now i look back and think wow i didnt know how badly this has effected her to this point where she is getting our child a helmet. i am beating myself of about this. anyone else out there like that? i really wanted to find out if there are support groups that have meet ups just for our children that have helmets? it would be nice to have another mom and child out there like us to chat with and have a play date so my child doesn't feel weird around other children. Guest guest
I remember long ago I asked my ortho about support groups, and that is how I found out about this site :-). I did become friends with another mom in my city, but by the time our kids met her son was out of his band. Now I live in India, but from the time my daughter was banded until over a year after her band was off I never saw another baby in a band except at the ortho's office. I think it would be nice to find a group, but depending where you live it may or may not happen. I did run into a few people who told me their children, grandchildren, nieces etc had been banded. As for your child feeling weird, I haven't found that to be the case at all. They will totally go by your cues - treat them like they are normal and their hat is a cute accessory. Tell other parents about it and you'll probably find one of them is also worried about plagio or knows a baby that should have been banded, and thinks it is cool you are fixing it. As for feeling like a bad mom, we have all been there. If we had known more some of us might have avoided banding, but even knowing about plagio isn't always enough to prevent it. However I definitely learned to be thankful that we caught it in time to do something. If parents learn about plagio after age 2 there is nothing to be done. Even worse are the ones who asked their doctor only to be told " it will round out on its own " , then it never does. So you shouldn't be hard on yourself. Just be happy her head should be improving soon. -christine sydney, 4.5 yrs, starband grad > > My Daughter is going to get a helmet tomorrow and she is seven months now.
