Guest guest
Hi Pam, I would love to attend this some year, maybe next year. Anyhow, I am on a few other related to Celiac and it has been wonderful hearing all the reports back from those who were able to attend the Stanford conference. One reportee mentioned that there was a section of the conference that specifically addressed children and celiac, but I have yet to learn what was said. By chance did you catch this part of the conference...anyone? I would love to be debriefed as most of my issues related to CD revolve around my children:) Cheers, Azalyne --- Newbury <pknewbury@...> wrote: > I just got back from the Stanford Celiac Conference; > the conference was > outstanding and I came home stuffed. Guest guest
Hi I actually only went because my daughter is celeiac and I found it very useful. One of the biggest things I came away with is that I need to find a good ped GI doctor and I need to be on top of everything. I think it is really improtant to see a nutritionist also because they talked aobut adults with issues of malabsorption even though they are on a strict GF diet. So I wonder how my daughter is doing. She isn't putting on any weight and ifeel like she should be growing!!! I came out feeling lucky that there is a growing list of foods availabe, and I have a better sense of what to ask doctor's about. Guest guest
Thanks for your feedback Sabreena! We are currently seeing a Nutritionist and looking into a multitude of possibilities, I am excited to finally have some support. Did you happen to come across a Ped. GI by chance?? I would love if the Stanford Celiac Management Clinic had a pediatric unit-wouldn't that be so amazing for all of us parents! Anyhow, I hope you find all the support you need! It is taxing on us moms/dads, but the support does exist! Guest guest
We go to Dr. Anders Dohlstrom, (408) 358-3573 in the south bay. He is in the same practice as Dr. Marjarie McCracken. He diagnosed my daughter immediately and the biopsy confirmed. Both are recognized leaders in this area. Haven't found any good answers on the nutrition front other than educating yourself, your child, teachers, etc. and checking everything. --- Azalyne Skye <unschoolingmamaof3@...> wrote: > Thanks for your feedback Sabreena! Guest guest
Well I never would have known it was available now if I hadn't read it in here so thanks to whoever first mentioned it. It's pretty simple -- if people don't know about the new line and buy the stuff they won't carry it...as expensive as it is it really is good and makes me feel like I have choice now in the bakery department. > > How many times are people going to say that whole foods are going to carry baked items??? > > > eileen >
Guest guest
I agree. It is very exciting news. I personally would love to hear about everybody's experiences with the GF bakery items. It's so thrilling to be able to buy something fresh instead of prepackaged or frozen! I just went back and looked at the index and there were only a couple of original posts about it - then some back and forth messages in the same thread. Maybe you were only reading the subject lines, Eileen? Guest guest
I have tried the apple pie, which was ok, but nearly $12 for a SMALL pie. Plus, it went bad within two days, so if you get something, I'd recommend eating it quickly. I could bake my own normal sized pie for less and it would last longer. I also tried the cream biscuits, which were more solid than I hoped they would be, but still, they were biscuits. BTW, I should mention that I'm actually in LA. I moved here from SF in April so the WFs store that I went to is actually on 3rd St. in LA. It's possible that the baked items in SF are longer lasting as I have noticed that the WFs here is has somehow less variety than the one in SF. Alice --- Trudy <tverzosa@...> wrote: > I agree. Guest guest
Other people's opinions definitely effect my buying decisions, it helps me avoid costly mistakes. I went to WF yesterday and the inventory was all new and much fresher. I asked the people behind the counter what day of the week the GF line was delivered and he said he thought every other day from No. Carolina? I bought the sundried tomato roasted garlic bread that was $9.75 but really good. Very flavorful. I don't know if Mariposa brownies have been discussed here but they are excellent (I like them 100% better than Crave) and I asked WF about carrying them and they said they had talked to them. > > > > > > > > How many times are people going to say that > > whole foods are going to > > > carry baked items??? > > > > > > > > > > > > eileen > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > __________________________________ > - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005 > http://mail. >
Guest guest
WF new sandwich bread was very good toasted. I got to dip toast into and over easy egg for the first time in years....how exciting is that! Ha, ha Pamelas brownie mix is far better than the new pre made brownies WF just got in. Follow the directions exactly Rosie
Guest guest
My WF is only stocking the new GF stuff in the freezer - I was disappointed. That said, the apple pie was wonderful - I'm glad that it is expensive - I wouldn't want to eat it too often or I'll really pack on the pounds! Guest guest
I talked to the head WF GF baker at the Stanford Celiac Conference. All the GF baked goods are coming from the one and only GF kitchen in NC or somewhere back East. If, and only if, they can make a good profit on this stuff will they even begin to think about a GF kitchen on the West Coast. So perhaps it is all coming in frozen and being defrosted at the store. These are convenience items after all. Guest guest
No worries. I just wanted to clarify the number of emails a bit. I totally understand the budgetary problems, having a two-year-old DD and a lawyer-sized student loan but not practicing law! That's exactly why I want to hear about the bakery products. Should I decide to splurge I don't want to waste my money on a crappy item. I haven't found a good bread recipe I like. Would you be willing to share yours Eileen? I'm so new at this! I did not mean to upset anyone who can afford to pay $10.00 for a loaf of bread more power to all of you. I have trouble paying rent can't pay that kind of money for bread when I can make the same thing Again I am sorry if I upset some people eileen eileen
Guest guest
Hi Sabreena, I am in ville/Corralitos area of Santa Cruz County. I don't think I know where Emeryville is? Sounds like you are one busy mama! Working from home is a challenge and trying to fit in homeschooling seems overwhelming, but easier than all the issues/challenges that sending my children to a public or private school would create...for us anyway it seems the best choice. Now if I can learn to balance it all! In terms of working from home, I sell Boutique women's clothing out of my home...kind of funny that this is what I am doing, as I originally sold clothing online. Since the twins were born I barely have time to keep up with my email, let alone post items for sale on ebay. Selling out of my house is working pretty well, I just need to learn how to advertise better:/ Anyhoo, I wish I could afford to just focus on my kids, perhaps someday soon!
