Guest guest
Hi Kalinda, I have heard people talk about vinegar in other venues -- like using it to houseclean and wash clothes (it is also mentioned on a Multiple Chemical Sensitivities group I'm on...). What is the mechanism behind it? It will somehow make my scalp less dry and itchy? Do you rinse your hair in straight vinegar, or a vinegar/water mixture? I was wondering how you learned about these natural, chemical-free alternatives. Do you have a favorite book about it, to recommend? I'm also interested in the glycemic index you found, but haven't got round to looking at it... Thanks, Sue ----- Original Message ----- From: Kalinda Sent: Thursday, October 06, 2005 8:56 PM Subject: [ ] Re: shampoo and skin care Sue,I to have that problem and my easy answer is to use a vinegar rinse on your scalp when weekly before shampoo. Also I make my own skin care products, I used to use amaranth flour as face wash,I still use rose water toner and I make an nourishing oil and moisturizer, it is easy simple, cost effective compaired to expensive organic brands and works great. Kalinda>> Hello All,> > I've been having trouble these past few weeks with an itchy scalp. I've been trying different shampoos, and I read an article about all the unsafe chemicals in shampoos, and I was just about to go out and buy Simply Organic shampoo (very expensive). And then it occurred to me -- is there gluten in these things? And, sure enough, the ingredients list of my current shampoo includes "wheat amino acids." Have others discovered that they are allergic to gluten in shampoo?> > Thank you,> Sue>
Guest guest
Kalinda, I have a recipe for millet flour, sorghum flower muffins, if you are into baking from scratch--those are 70 on the GI Index. Garbanzo-Fava bean flour is lower, but I'm allergic to the Fava beans. They are all Redmill products. So let me know if you are interested and I'll send you the recipe. Also, in recipes that call for corn starch which is very high, you can substitute arrow root starch. Guest guest
Kalinda, I would be happy to hear more about those lower GI mixes and who makes them. I just discovered soy pasta which is a little different but satisfies my craving for pasta, which I can't have now (even rice).
Guest guest
Hi Kalinda, I googled "vinegar scalp" and apparently vinegar helps restore pH balance... It also, as you said, removes residue build-up. They said it's good for both oily and dry issues! So I'm going to buy some this weekend and give it a try. Thanks for the tip. I've also decided to give Aubrey Organics shampoo a try. I googled it as well, for customer reviews. My friend tried their "Dry Frizzy" shampoo, but it strips her hair too much (leaving it dry). From the customer reviews, I've decided to try the "Dry, Damaged" shampoo -- it seems to be the most moisturizing. Apparently it won't lather, because it has no sulfates... I suspect it's partly all those chemicals that are making my scalp itch, and Aubrey's doesn't have any chemicals at all. We'll see how my hypothesis tests... Thanks for the book recommendation. And I'm interested to try out the lower glycemic index breads... Did you ask Mike about his "I Can Eat That" line? It tasted great and much "heartier" than other gluten-free breads, when I tried it at the conference last weekend. I was wondering where it falls on the index... Thanks again, Best, Sue ----- Original Message ----- From: Kalinda Sent: Saturday, October 08, 2005 9:41 PM Subject: [ ] Re: shampoo and skin care Sue,I am unsure exactly the mechanism behind it.
