Guest guest
You can go into the photo section and add a picture. You can still band at 14 months if you want too. Where are you located? Maybe we have someone in the group that is in your area and they can reccommend a plagio educated specialist. There is no guarantee that it will self correct. Please let us know if we can help in anyway. Angie (Jenna STARgrad 2003 and Kylie repo 2007) Plagiocephaly 14 months old - will it correct on its own? I have been worried about this since he was 3 months old. He was born two months premature and came home with hospital with a flat head and it only got worse, then stayed about the same since 4 months. I have been to many doctors and peads to get a referral to the head specialists to have it checked out. None of them will send us. They all agree it is severe, but have been telling me it will get better alone with time. I have read horror stories about headaches, jaw problems, dental problems and surgery all as a result of plagio. Is this true? Grateful for any advice. *Is there any way I can put a picture on here? Guest guest
Hi, Please do not count on it correcting on its own. It most likely will not. The best thing to do is get evaluated for a helmet as soon as possible. If you give us your location, we can probably refer you to the right place. You can still start a helmet at 14 months. The sooner the better. Hopefully, someone else can let you know about how to post pictures. Best, Kathy roxanneeastaway wrote: I have been worried about this since he was 3 months old. Guest guest
HI and welcome! I am so sorry to her that you have not been supported or helped by your drs! Unfortunately that is all to common!!! At 14 mo. you are nearing the end of the window for correction, but there may still be time. Do you have Cranial Tech near you? You can go for a free consult to see what they think about your babies head and if a band would help. Also - there is another board for older babies with plagio who were not banded. They can help with rounding on it's own. You can go here: OlderPlag/?yguid=278084777 And yes - you can post pics. Plagiocephaly/photos/album/0/list Tell us where you are located and someone here might know of a good dr to go to. Also, you can search thru old messages for you location and see what other have posted in the past! Guest guest
I would not count on it rounding out on its own. The sooner you start the better. Some places may not try to treat your child because of his age. Try to get your ped to write you a prescription so you can get your son evaluated by an orthotist right away. Also, if money is not that much of an issue don't wait to jump thru the insurance company's hoops. Just try to get reimbursement from them later, if they pay at all. We're still appealing our insurance company, but I don't think they are going to come thru. I wasted 2 months following their protocol of repositioning before getting my son a helmet, and all for nothing. They probably aren't going to pay anyway. Ugh! I know of 3 good companies that make the bands/helmets. Cranial Technologies makes the DOC band. They are active bands and may be the best bet for your son at his age. But if they don't have a location near you try the Starband, also an active band. The Hanger band is passive but I've heard that if you find an experienced orthotist they are wonderful. I'm pretty sure all of these companies offer free evaluations. Good luck in whatever decision you make.
