Guest guest
We just say it is temporary and helps round out the babys head. That she only has to wear it for a few weeks (though we knew it would be months). What do you tell people? I don't want to have a 5 minute discussion about flat head but I don't want to be rude either. (I know some people just say "it's none of your business," but these are neighborhood people I'm sort of friendly with showing concern.) Thanks! Guest guest
Surprisingly (to me) many people know what it is for. (I live in a big city so maybe that is why) I've had many parents tell me they were told to get it for their child but didn't and you can tell they regret it. (Especially when they see that she is fine with it and so are we) I've had another tell me their child wore one and how happy they were with the results. People who don't know are usually comfortable asking. I tell them she had a tight neck abd favored one side and developed a flat spot. I let them know she only has to wear it a few months and it doesn't bother her. I've had one mom ask me if it is so she won't hit her head. That was the only time I got that kind of a question and I just explained it to her. It really has been so much easier than I ever imagined. And I think she gets extra special treatment and TLC now as well!Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone with SprintSpeedFrom: Julesfrommobile <julesfrommobile@...>Date: Tue, 9 Mar 2010 12:50:05 -0800 (PST)Plagiocephaly <Plagiocephaly >Subject: Re: What do you tell people? Guest guest
It has not been a big deal, as most people say " oh, he's got one of those helmets " and they know what its for. If they don't, I tell them my water was broke for 2 weeks and that he came out with a flat side on his head and that he only has to wear it for 8 weeks. I've been reading the group messages for about 2 months but haven't really chimed in, but it seems like there is a lot of fear and worry about banding. My family has really embraced the doc band rather than making it an issue. The band is adorable, and makes him special, and everyone else thinks he's adorable in it. son, August, 7 months (on week 7 of doc band)
