Guest guest
There are two STARband providers in Michigan, not sure how close they are to Detroit: Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital Ethan Leavitt, CPO 235 Wealthy Street, SE Grand Rapids, MI 49503-5299 616-242-0315 Email: ethan.leavitt@... www.maryfreebedoandp.com Michigan Orthopedic Services Edgar , III, CO 13450 Farmington Road Livonia, MI 48150 Phone: 734-513-8205 FAX: 734-513-8219 Email: elewis@... www.michortho.com Molly Novato, California Nicolas, 4, tort & plagio, STARband (CIRS Oakland) 4/24/06-9/12/06, Graduate! , 7 , 10 New - Need Advice - Insurance Company Requires 3 Months Repositional Therapy At my daughter's 4 month pediatrician check up, I found out that her flat head wouldn't be rounding out on it's own. The pediatrician referred us to a specialist and we have been told that the best results and shorter helmet time is seen in children who start the helmet at less than 6 months. However, I have just discovered that our insurance requires 3 months of repositional therapy first. Should I just comply, even those statistics say starting the helmet sooner is better? What about the fact that the doctor says her head won't round out on it's own? (She has brachy and we have Priority Health). Also, anyone know of treatment centers in the Detroit/Flint area? We were referred to Dr. Arlene Rozelle who is not in our network. Thank you!! ------------------------------------ For more plagio info
Guest guest
Our insurance required a 2 month positional therapy. I followed it and missed my son's largest growth spurt. I noticed the plagio at 4 months. After 2 months of repositioning which did not work, we got him a helmet. And now I'm still fighting with the insurance company. If they end up rejecting the claim again, I'll have wasted the 2 months for nothing. If you have the money I would just get him the helmet out of pocket. I've also read that repositioning therapy only works for babies up to 2 months old. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hello! My 10 month old daughter goes to Michigan Orthopedic Services out of Flint. We had to go to the Livonia office to get our scan, but go to the Flint office for check-ups. We are 4 weeks in, 3 with the helmet, and so far, I am pleased. We got a late start (started the process at 9 months), but thanks to words of support and what I have read here, I am no longer as upset about it. Luckily, Magdalen's case isn't too bad and we got the helmet before her latest growth spurt. So, if it ends up you have to wait a few months, all hope is not lost. As for insurance, I don't have any advice. We had to pay out of pocket because of our deductible is high. Although it was a chunk of change, it includes the helmet, visits, and scans and I truly feel it is worth it. The amount is worth not having to later wonder 'what if' had we not done it. I am curious about your wording. If you found out at 4 months your daughter's head won't fix on its own, does this mean that her doctor and you discussed her flat spot at earlier appointments? If so, your doctor should have noted this in your daughter's records. Wouldn't this be able to count towards your insurance's time guidelines? Hope this helps! > > There are two STARband providers in Michigan, not sure how close they are to > Detroit: > > Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital > Ethan Leavitt, CPO > 235 Wealthy Street, SE > Grand Rapids, MI 49503-5299 > 616-242-0315 > Email: ethan.leavitt@... > www.maryfreebedoandp.com > > Michigan Orthopedic Services > Edgar , III, CO > 13450 Farmington Road > Livonia, MI 48150 > Phone: 734-513-8205 > FAX: 734-513-8219 > Email: elewis@... > www.michortho.com > > Molly > Novato, California > Nicolas, 4, tort & plagio, STARband (CIRS Oakland) 4/24/06-9/12/06, > Graduate! > , 7 > , 10 > > > > New - Need Advice - Insurance Company Requires 3 Months > Repositional Therapy > > At my daughter's 4 month pediatrician check up, I found out that her flat > head wouldn't be rounding out on it's own.
