Guest guest
How can they prove you HAVEN'T been trying aggressive repositioning the last 3 months? Will your pediatrician say that you have? I really don't see how this can be documented. But I would NOT wait, even if it means fighting with your insurance or even paying for the helmet out of pocket. There is a very brief window of opportunity and it's best to start early. I know it's not easy paying for them (I paid for two out of pocket) but that's what I'd do. The pediatrician referred us to a specialist and we have been told that the best results and shorter helmet time is seen in children who start the helmet at less than 6 months. However, I have just discovered that our insurance requires 3 months of repositional therapy first. Should I just comply, even those statistics say starting the helmet sooner is better? What about the fact that the doctor says her head won't round out on it's own? (She has brachy and we have Priority Health). Also, anyone know of treatment centers in the Detroit/Flint area? We were referred to Dr. Arlene Rozelle who is not in our network. > > Thank you!! >
Guest guest
I do agree its good to try repo early on when possible, but it really is dependent on the childs age, the younger the better. I did try repo for my child about 4-6 mos, but got the helmet at 6 mos, had appts lined up " just in case " For INS to require this no matter the age is rediculous but part of the Standard policy I'm sure. If your child is 6 mos, its going to be less succesfful than if was younger, if you don't want to wait longer,if it were me, I would TELL the INS co that you HAVE done repo. and tell your ped you have been doing it , maybe they can write a letter to attest if needed. I don't see how they can document that sort of thing. INS have standard policies but you can always appeal etc. le > > At my daughter's 4 month pediatrician check up, I found out that her flat head wouldn't be rounding out on it's own.
