Hi.

We travel from WV to the Charlotte CT clinic. My daughter got her Doc Band on

Feb 7th. She also has tort.

The local Hanger clinics where I live don't have much experience with Cranial

helmets. I asked the guy and he has done about 10 helmets in 10 years. That's

why we decided to go with Cranial Tech.

So far we've had a very positive experience. Our clinican is ...she's been

very knowledge about everything.

Good Luck!

with a 92.9 cephalic index. So, more brachy than plagio.

my daughter was 6 mm, and 92... we went to CT, plagio was never my concern I

didn't even see it on the pictures.... I didn't know much about helmets at the

time. They treat her for plagio and she was overcorrectin after only 5 weeks.

But given her age (6 months) the band should last 10-12 weeks. To treat brachy

we needed another helmet. I guess it was maybe miscommunication... to brief it

up my daughter got another helmet free of charge. Remember if you want to treat

plagio and brachy you are going to need two helmets at CT.

My son is ~7 weeks into treatment with his Hanger band for Plagio and we have

went from 13mm to 5mm already! He is being treated by the Hanger office in

sville , NC. After a rocky start (we had to get a new band) things are

going well. We had an initial consultation with the CT office Charlotte, but

ended up going with Hanger because they were closer to our home, seemed to have

a very equivalent quality of care and their treatment is less expensive. I

didn't feel they were forthcoming with information at our CT consultation. It

seemed we had to initiate questions in order to get information. For example,

they didn't provide us with any measurements at our consultation. Anyway, I'm

sure they do a great job, but we liked the Hanger office better even though it's

certainly not as slick of an operation.

Thanks,

Jenn

wow- no measurements at consultation? Hanger at least did that. I guess we'll

see how it goes today....

Glad things are going so well for your son!

Going with CT will be a major commitment for us as it is 3.5 hours away from

home. My parents live in Charlotte though.

We went with CT and we're very happy with the results. After 11 weeks of being

in his Doc Band, our son went from 7mm down to 3. I wouldn't have known those

numbers though, had I not asked. After being on these boards, I, too, wondered

about measurements. CT does measure, but unless you ask, at least with the

techs I had, they didn't share those numbers. At our initial consult, I don't

remember if they measured, but when we went for the digital images and were

already in the process of getting a band, they sure did. And at each visit,

again, they measured.

When I asked about the numbers and brought up the info shared on this site, our

tech explained that they liked to go by the feel of the head shape, how they

were filling out the band, and just plain eyeing the babe's head. And really,

this was perfectly fine with me. I know everyone's different and some like to

know those numbers and want them each step along the way, but... we most

definitely saw progress week to week, just by looking at him, and also, by

feeling his head. You know what your babies head feels like. When you compare

it to that CT 'head on a stick' that they mold for your baby, you will feel the

difference. You will see the difference. And IMO, the numbers won't matter all

that much. Progress is progress.

The evaluation at CT went really well. I have complete confidence in moving

forward with the DOC band. The therapist was very knowledgable and obviously

very experienced.

They took great pictures and measurements that gave objective information that I

am sure insurance will want. (fingers crossed for approval!)

We get our DOC band next Monday- hoping this experience will continue to go

smoothly!

when you treat plagio... brachy is getting a little better, but my daughter

plagio was bearly noticable.... and when you start shaving band on the opposite

sides of the band you cannot once plagio is corrected start to shave only on the

back of the helmet.... if your son gets to wear helmet for 10-12 weeks his

brachy will probably get better.... but my daughter was overcorrecting only

after 5 weeks in the helmet.... and they could't treat brachy with the same

helmet
