Guest guest
Hi Chinwe, Thank you so much for your input. I still haven't even read the book so it's still a matter of familiarizing myself with everything. I think it's a very good point about the "spices" in the hot dogs. I did ask whether the hot dogs were gluten, casein, soy, nitrate, and preservative free. She answered yes, but you're right, she may not even have thought of the spices. I will look into it. I can imagine how hard it is to see your child lose weight. How long has your son been on this diet? I am slowly getting everything organized, and have started eliminating things slowly from their diet. So far, so good. I cut out these gluten free chocolate chip cookies that I used to make for them and they haven't asked for them once. I am really surpised. The other thing is, I live in Toronto, Canada, and some products are not sold here. I have a question about yogurt. Are you making the goat milk or the cow's milk one? My mom and grandmother used to make cow's milk yogurt when i was young and I loved it. I don't know about goat's milk as I had tried to give the boys goat's milk to drink about a year and a half ago and they did not like it. Thanks again for your feedback, Phyllis From: Chinwe Peele <chinwepeele@...> Sent: Mon, December 28, 2009 12:32:01 PMSubject: Re: [ ] Just getting Started When I started this diet with my son the one thing that surprised me the most was the amount of weight he lost. It really scared me because he was already so small and got smaller. Then he started to gain weight after cooking a lot with duck fat, ghee, and eating the bone in broths that he loves to have every day. So you MIGHT see that (weight loss) but if you do, stick with it and they will start to gain weight and begin to look better than they did before, if that makes any sense. I would still go through the into diet. I would probably only spend two or three days on it, but I would still go through it. I would not continue the hot dogs because of that questionable ingredient "spices". If the hot dog producer gets a spice blend for the hot dogs from another company, on their label they are not required to list what spices were used to create the spice blend, they only have to list "spices". Who knows what kind of spices those are,it could be soy, gluten, or an artificial color etc. Be mindful of the self limiting diet and the desire to only eat these hot dogs for some reason. That very well could be an indicator that he's getting something he's not supposed to and is loving it. I would do the food sensitivity test that's mentioned on the website and in the book at night with eggs on my son that was sensitive and see if the sensitivity still persists. That's just one way to do it, I am sure their are others. Here are some websites that answered a lot of my questions and help me prepare meals, of course I make substitutions to the recipes when necessary: http://www.scdrecip e.com/recipes/ http://www.thenouri shinggourmet. com/ http://www.gaps. me/preview/ ?page_id= 32 love this one: http://kellythekitc henkop.com/ category/ gaps-diet- gut-health My two cents, Chinwe From: pvenet <pvenet (DOT) ca>Subject: [ ] Just getting Started Date: Monday, December 28, 2009, 8:28 AM I have twin 5 year old boys who have been GFCF for quite awhile now and their leaky gut has not healed. Our DAN recommended the GAPS diet. We have not started yet, and I have ordered the books. I am reading up on it as much as possible. Is it necessary to start with the intro diet? My boys do not have diarrea. One of my boys is extremely picky when it comes to food and has a very limited diet. He eats hot dogs quite often, but they are all beef from an organic farm and are GFCF, nitrate free, soy free, and preservative free. The only added ingredients are dehydrated mustard, salt, spices, smoke and garlic. I was wondering if he could continue eating these? Also, my other son had tested sensitive to eggs very early on when we started biomed and we have stayed away from eggs for 2 years now, for both boys. A lot of recipes call for eggs, so I was wondering at what point could we try to re-introduce them?Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Hello, I am glad you are looking into the hot dog situation. I hope things turn out well. My son has been on this diet since July, he's six. He lost the weight after he stopped eating carbohydrates and grains (water weight), and started to pick it back up after eating the nutrient rich foods that we started to give him. He actually feels heavier when we playfully pick him up...I'm sure that's because of the dense bones from all the calcium rich broths he eats. Since he has not been on the diet for a year yet he is not technically ready for yogurt. I don't know which one would be best to use on him, and I can't wait to find out either. When you get the book read, read and reread it. I think this is a great diet for our children. GFCF is a great move in the right direction, but to me this is where you really start to pick up speed when it comes to seeing progress. Your definitely on the right track so be/stay encouraged. I can't wait to hear the update on how they are doing. Guest guest
Hi all - my son , 6 1/2 months, has an appointment at the plagiocephaly clinic at St. Barnabas (NJ) on 1/11. I am assuming they will recommend a band - his head is flat in the back despite all of my positioning and tummy time efforts - can I make an appointment with the band people (Cranial Tech I think in Paramus NJ) without a prescription or without seeing this doctor? I would like to get a head start if I can. Also - approximately how long do babies have to wear the band?
