Guest guest
My son is getting his helmet today. I am very excited but a little nervous on how he will do through the night. We just got him to sleep through the night about a month ago so, I don't want to mess up that. He will be 11 months next week and rolls onto his tummy to sleep. Will sleeping on his tummy be effected by wearing the helmet? I read in other posts that some people put either foam or a soft blanket under the mattress sheet to give them more padding. WOuld you suggest this for a tummy sleeper? I guess my concern with that would be SIDS.
Guest guest
We went through our first helmet and part of a second one with no sleep issues and no special things like the foam and she's been sleeping on her tummy the whole time. The first few nights were a bit shorter than usual but then my daughter went back to sleeping through the night (8:30 to 7). This third helmet though has a different fit I guess and she is just too uncomfortable at night to sleep through the night. I tried the fluffy blanket under the mattress pad the the last two nights for two reasons. One, because my daughter was basically sleeping in my bed and since she is quite the traveler at night I didn't get any sleep because I was too paranoid over her moving around and sliding off the bed. And two, I tried a blanket and not foam because I am on a very tight budget and wanted to see if that was our sleep issue before spending the money on memory foam. I would rather cushion her crib mattress than let her continue rolling off my bed. She's landed on her head a few times when I haven't moved fast enough. I am pretty sure the issue is the helmet because I can get her to sleep all night in the crib with out the helmet. I wouldn't worry about tummy sleeping but do ask your technician about this to reassure yourself also. As for the memory foam, I would definitely wait and see how your son handles the helmet then talk with your pediatrician about it if you think it is necessary. My daughter is very stubborn about sleeping in her crib with the helmet so I am trying the cushioned mattress as a last resort only for my sanity. Since I am seeing a huge improvement in sleep the last two nights with the cushioned mattress, I will be talking with our pediatrician at a follow-up we have on Monday about any risk with adding the memory foam to the crib and I am also going to ask our technician tomorrow at our adjustment appointment about this. > > My son is getting his helmet today. Guest guest
I would wait and see. My daughter, also 11 months, is a tummy sleeper and has been sleeping fine in her helmet, either on her tummy or her side, for the past 5 weeks. I was really concerned that she would have trouble sleeping, and I still don't really understand how she sleeps on her face with the helmet on, but she seems perfectly comfortable. You may want to wait a week or so and see how he adjusts, and then go from there. Good luck!! Kristi > > > > My son is getting his helmet today. Guest guest
Mine sleeps fine on her face also. I don't get it either. Her new thing is pillows. I haven't allowed pillows but now have given her blankies which she wads up and uses as a pillow lol. (She's almost 2)
