Guest guest
, As you and your son look at colleges, you need to ask about gluten-free dining. My experience is that some schools are a whole lot better than others. Washington Univ. in St. Louis, for example, has a GF dining brochure, which I thought was pretty cool. As with elementary and secondary schools, they do need to keep your child safe. My oldest has just gone GF. She will be a junior at NYU and will be in apartment-style housing, but she plans to go overseas next spring and will need to use a meal plan. Before she leaves she'll make sure (or I'll make sure!) to talk with the disability center on campus so that they clue in the overseas campus to her needs. At UC's, many students find that apartment-style housing works better as well. There's been some talk about this topic on the other group for Bay Area celiacs, the ROCK group. If you want to join, send an email to bayareaceliacROCK-subscribe , and will add you to the list. Good luck! Debbie on 8/1/05 8:21 AM, A. He was diagnosed with celiac disease a year ago and has been very good about sticking to a gluten-free diet. He does, however, have problems when he eats away from home, mostly at restaurants. We’re concerned about how he’ll manage at college with meal plans/etc. Any advice out there??!! He may just have to cook for himself but I’d love to know if any of you have had to deal with this one. Thanks, H.
