Guest guest
Many babies shock their parents and do just fine, having barely any reaction to the helmet. There probably will be extra sweating, so make sure you dress your son a little lighter than normal and check to make sure he's not getting too hot. You can also take his helmet off briefly to wipe it out and dry off his head if it gets sweaty. Make sure you never miss cleaning the helmet or shampooing his hair or he's likely to get smelly and/or rashy. If he does seem cranky or has trouble sleeping at first, don't panic or convince yourself you won't be sleeping for the next several months. It will get better. Do what you can to make him comfortable short of taking off the helmet, and be patient. Again, it will get better! Finally, if he does have trouble, the helmet causes bright red sores, or you have any questions in general, don't be shy. The orthotist and/or board members are here to help! Good luck! > > My 4.5 month-old son is getting his helmet today. We are nervous about the " adjustment period. " Any tips/advice for coping with the first few days with the helmet? Guest guest
Hi there! Our little guy was about 7 months when he got his, and he adjusted immediately. No rough nights, no scratching and pulling at it. It was like it wasn't even there. He does get warmer, but that's it. I was the one who needed the adjustment period, but was amazed to find that even I did better than expected. I forget he's wearing it, and am surprised when strangers ask me about him. That has only happened twice in a month, by the way -- and I thought it would happen every day. I was so worried about having to explain to everyone, and it just hasn't been an issue. Your little guy will do fine. Good luck! > > My 4.5 month-old son is getting his helmet today. We are nervous about the " adjustment period.
