Hi Everyone....I have a 6 month old baby girl who will be getting her helmet next Monday. I just can't imagine breastfeeding her with her helmet on? How difficult is this...any tips? thanks!Kandice

It is a challenge. My Evan was 7 months when he got the helmet and he did

great. It may be a little awkward at first. I found the best way for him was

to cradle his head on the inside of my elbow. Just make sure that the helmet is

not scooting up his head. Basically his neck did not rest on my arm, the bottom

of the helmet did. I hope that makes sense. Also, lying on your side on a bed

was a good way to nurse. Just don't give up so easily. You'll find a way!

My Evan is 8 months old and I still nurse him day and night (unfortunately he

still wakes a lot!) without any issue. It will feel a little awkward at first,

but we both adjusted really quickly. It's mostly more uncomfortable for me b/c

his helmet presses against my arm instead of his head resting in the crook. He

has s DOC band, but it can't be that different than a Star helmet.

Hi Kandice,

I use a boppy pillow to breastfeed. I feel like the breastfeeding experience,

comfort etc haven't changed after my son got his helmet/band.

Hope this helps.

I have something called the cuddlesleeve and its awesome!!! You put it on your arm and its like a pillow for baby and it is more comfy for you as well. I already have been using it since before my daughter got her DOC band. But it makes nursing w/the band much easier as well. You can still have baby in the crook of your arm and both of you are comfortable. You can order it from their website by googling the name. (I think its just cuddlesleeve.com but not positive) I love this thing, my mom gives it as a gift to e-one who has a baby. For the first week or so I would put a folded burp rag between us to cushion it for me.  Nursing with her band never bothered my baby but it was uncomfortable & awkward for me at first.

Thanks so much for the responses- they were really helpful! I love breastfeeding my daughter and felt a little worried that her helmet might hinder things...I think now that we are 6 days away from getting started, all my anxieties are surfacing!!!! So nice to hear from others :)Kandice---- Original Message ----From: Plagiocephaly To: Plagiocephaly Subject: Re: Nursing with the Star helmet?

I breastfed my son the entire time he was in his band and didn't have any problems with it.  Sometimes the band can be a bit uncomfortable on your arm in which case you can use a boppy pillow or just put a blanket between your arm and the baby's head.

I was worried about this initially also but found it to be not much of an issue

after all. You will get used to it in no time. I do use a boppy pillow at home

alot but have no problem when we are out and holding him as I normally would.

My son was 6 mo when he got the Doc band. It was a tad awkward at first be we

adjusted very quickly. He turned 7 mo old today and is still a nursing champ.

Don't give up...it will work with a little adjustment!

I nursed my daughter for 6 plus months in her helmet. She was never bothered and if I got in the correct position, it didn't bother me either.
