Guest guest
Hello again! My son, Devin (18 months) was in a DOC band last year for 14 weeks. Yesterday I brought in my new baby, (4 months) in for an evaluation. I have been so mindful of tummy time since he was born. When he was 6 weeks old he was hospitalized for RSV for 9 days. During that time we were not able to hold him as we usually did and tummy time was out (unless it was chest to chest). After the hospital stay he really had some flattening, but we did everything we could to help it. Needless to say we didn't have any luck. The only time has been on his back is to sleep or go somewhere in the car, he is always worn in a sling while we are out. Anyway, I knew that his brachy was significant but honestly I was expecting them to say that it was borderline - it didn't look nearly as bad as my older son. I was wrong. He is 106%. My older son was 96. I feel so crushed. So, those who started with a brachy over 100, what type of results did you get? Dev ended up 86%, is a 10% the best to expect? I am just feeling so discouraged today. Thanks!
Guest guest
Hellow again, I am surprised his brachy is so severe given that you were working on it, but it sounds like you did what you could. 4 mo is a good time to start so you should do well. My daughter started at 96 also and got to about 85%. She was banded at 5 mo. You might do a little better than that since you're starting early. Also there is the option of multiple bands. Since he doesn't look as bad as the numbers seem to say it is also possible that there are measurement errors. They measure by hand and babies move. My doctor measured my daughter at 100% by hand but the starscanner said 96%, and it went down from there. -christine sydney, 5 yrs, starband grad > > Hello again! > > My son, Devin (18 months) was in a DOC band last year for 14 weeks. Guest guest
Oh my gosh Amy, that's amazing how sensitive their heads are! I guess that tells me that this problem seems almost inevitable for some babies, despite all of our efforts and best intentions. I mean if it could happen in just nine short days, how coul we possibly avoid it? And you had been actively trying to prevent it from birth! I'm so glad your recovered from RSV, at 6 weeks that is so young...
