Band/Orthotist suggestions in NJ

Hi All,

I am new to this group. My baby has been referred to use cranial band.She

developed flat head and we noticed it late.. tummy time did not help us much and

she is 4 months now.. I am not sure which band should I go for. Can you please

help me with your reviews. The closest one is the hanger in farmingdale ,NJ. If

anyone has been there before, please let me know if they are good

(I have been reading that it might get worse if the orthotist is not good).

I would appreciate any pointers.

I'd go to all the helmet makers you are considering, then decide which you are

most comfortable with. You can go to the Orthomerica (starband) and Cranial Tech

websites to see if they have locations nearby.

I can tell you that the starband and hanger helmet are both thicker than the

cranial tech band. This means they take longer to grow out of, so you could save

or avoid a situation where your child is almost done with treatment and you're

not sure whether to have another helmet made or not.

However, cranial tech has a great reputation because they specialize in bands.

They also are great because their clinicians are physical therapists that can

tell you if your child has any torticollis and offer exercises if necessary. On

the down side, Cranial Tech is usually more expensive.

Also, make sure to check on which, if any, providers are contracted with your

insurance. I know you can email someone through the Cranial Tech website to find

out if they take a certain insurance, but I think you'd have to call the

Orthomerica and Hanger locations.
