Guest guest
We used Hanger for our dd. It would be more helpful if you posted your location... then others who used it could speak up. Alos, look thru old messages for your location and see if it has been discussed in the past. I'm off to look at the pics now. Jen Mom to Luli - 4 yrs old Torticollis, Plagio, Syringomyelia Frustrated.... Our son Connor was fitted for a Hanger helmet 7 weeks ago and we have felt like it doesn't fit right since day one. We have been back to the orthotist on five occasions. Three were for scheduled visits and two were because we felt like the helmet was pushing to hard on this ears and eye. Every time we visit she tells us that the helmet is right, but that it is rotating and she just has to add another pad to stop the rotation. There are now 4 locations that have pads in this helmet and we are concerned that it is not working correctly. The most frustrating part is that she is the only person to talk to and she keeps saying that it is not pushing on his eye or ears, when we can clearly see that it is. I have attached pictures to find out if anyone agrees or disagrees with us. I don't know if we need to go to a new facility or just trust this person. She says that she is the number 2 person in all of Hanger to do the volume of helmets that she does. Also now it looks like the front pad is pushing in on his eye and he is getting a bulge over his left ear. You can see in the pictures that it is the left eye that is getting pulled on. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Guest guest
I just looked at your pics... It is definately rotating and squishing the ear, not centered on the face, etc. Also, I don't agree to the padding being added. If the band was made to his head and measurements, there should be no need for it, not to mention that it changes the way forces are holding and directing growth as intended by the original band. Contact Hanger ABOVE your ortho... at the corporate level. Talk to them about the band and see if they have a solution (new band!) Also, if you have a cranial tech near by they do free evals and can tell you how they could help your baby. Jen Mom to Luli - 4 yrs old Torticollis, Plagio, Syringomyelia Frustrated.... Jen's advice is right on, IMO. (Eespecially the part I deleted, about going to Cranial Tech.) I'd get an email address from corporate and send them the pictures you showed us. Another remedy you might suggest is a straight passive band: if they don't think they can do better to correct the rotation, and find effective holding points (the ear and the cheek NOT being effective holding points) then at least you'd have a symmetrical helmet, and probably better preservation of void spaces. Please do tell us the name and location of your integrity-deficient orthotist, for our future reference, and keep us updated on the corporate response. -- Thad Launderville Montpelier, VT Clara age 2, STARband '
Guest guest
In my opinion your son's helmet clearly does not fit him properly. Not only can you see it in the pictures but the fact that they put padding in it is proof! I would throw a major hissy fit until I got a new helmet. Guest guest
We really should have a concise term for this apparently common underhanded practice, of continuing to enlarge an ill-fitting band beyond the " growing into " period, when what is really needed is a new, well-fitting helmet. I've written of " cutting the hole out of a blanket, " recollecting a storybook from my childhood, but using an analogy doesn't serve to encapsulate it very well. " Loser orthotist " may be apt for the moral aspect, but overlooks the possibility that someone at the factory may also have acted reprehensibly, either in manufacturing, or failing to provide procedural instruction. Fit assessment failure Failure in application Excessive rotation beyond first enlargement -- Thad Launderville town, VT Clara age 2, STARband '10 (had to be remade due to orthotist casting error) On Nov 10, 2010, at 12:04 AM, laurasucha wrote: > I am having the same problem with rotation of the helmet and adding > pads.
