I went to both Star and CT (however, not in MD nor VA- I am in the Dallas area)

for the initial evaluation and measurements, etc. I felt comfortable with both

of them. I chose Star because it is in network. Insurance just approved the

band, so we are going back to Star to get new measurements and order the band.

Good luck

I use CT in ndale, VA (45min away). I had the option of using Hanger in

Reston, VA where I live (10 minutes away) but I read mixed reviews about it and,

eventhough it was covered by insurance, I chose to go with CT. I haven't heard

one bad thing about CT, it seems to have the fastest results, and at the end of

the day, I thought it was the best for my daughter. She's had the band for a

week and so far the experience with them and their customer service has been

great.

rushed and if I show up early for an appointment, they have accommodated me very

well. I really like how they have two ways of getting what they need to build

the band. First, they will take a bunch of images and if that doesn't work, they

are able to make a plaster mold on site.

first day I got the band, when I went to put my son down for the night, I

noticed a red spot. I kept the band off and after an hour it hadn't gone away. I

was starting to stress out. Do I put the band back on even though he was still

red or do I have him not use it the first night? Remembering that CT had a

branch in CA, I called out there. The tech that I talked to had no problem

helping me and even put in a call to the branch in VA to let them know that I

was having a problem. The next morning, my tech called to see if everything was

alright and if I wanted to come in for a check. It put my mind at ease to know

that even thousands of miles away, the company would help their clients and keep

communication open between branches.

Hi - we have both choices here in Dallas also. I went to both places for evaluations and we chose Star Cranial. Both facilities only do the banding for babies so you are not talking about your 'typical' facility that does Star bands where they do other kinds of orthotics also. The techs at Star are othotists (sp?) that are trained on the STAR band. The techs at CT are either physical therapists or occupational therapists that are trained on the DOC Band. So both have highly trained specialists on these bands. We did have insurance pay for the STAR band and not the DOC band, but honestly I would have gone with STAR Cranial if they were both covered by insurance. We are very fortunate to live in an area with both choices available (facilities that only do the baby bands). STAR Cranial is expanding, but they

have only 3-4 locations at this point I believe. STAR Cranial is closer to me than CT was (by only about 15 minutes) and we have the band now and I do not regret the decision in the least bit. I know STAR Cranial is just as good, if not a better, place to be banded. STAR bands also have a 6 month shelf life and DOC bands are 4 months. If your baby may need a helmet for longer than 4 months but less than 6 months, they may only have to have 1 helmet with the STAR band and would have to have 2 with the DOC band. Check them both out and go with what you feel most comfortable with -- I don't think you can go wrong with either and saving 45 minutes drive time each way makes a big difference.Good luck!
