Percentages/Measurements, what's bad enough for a helmet??

Apologies if you saw this on the other Plagy board!

Hi again! I posted a few weeks ago about my son who has a bit of a flat spot

which I and my husband believe has gotten worse. He's currently almost 7 months

old.

He went for his second appointment with a specialist (Dr. Stotland, Dartmouth)

on Monday. At his first appt, the doctor didn't even take measurements, just

said he was perfectly fine. At this appointment, he did take measurements - at

my insistence - but said basically the same thing: that he's fine. Still, he

gave me a script for a helmet (starband) as I already had an appointment with

the brace company.

Today we went to New England Brace Company in Manchester, NH, and met with

Staci. She was extremely, extremely nice and certainly didn't push a helmet.

is only 4mm off, if that, but he does have a brachy percentage of 94%.

She was not wholeheartedly advising a helmet. She said it would keep it from

getting worse but might not necessarily correct the issue perfectly, and would

take a bit longer than average because he is so symmetrical - therefore the

helmet might slip on its axis a bit more than if it had an " anchor " in the form

of a larger deformity.

My question is, what were your children's measurements? Were they more or less

off than 's? If they were about the same, did you get a helmet? Did it

help? How long did it take? We are strongly leaning towards a helmet, as

insurance coverage isn't an issue for us, thankfully, but I just want to go into

the situation realistically.

Thanks!
