Guest guest
You ask about disposable grill covers. I keep a perforated pan intended for grilling small pieces of food. Grills haven't been part of my life until lately, so I'm learning as I go. For charcoal grills, solid charcoal lumps rather than briquettes may be best. Briquettes use starch as a binder, and that starch is often gluten. Some people feel that any gluten in briquettes is dispersed with heat and causes no harm. Other people say they become quite ill when they are near burning briquettes. As briquettes contain smelly chemicals I'd rather avoid, I've decided not to use them. Guest guest
I saw them advertised by Reynolds - they are aluminum. Seems like a relatively good idea Connie -----Original Message----- From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Suki O'Raghallaigh Sent: Friday, August 05, 2005 10:27 AM Subject: [ ] grill covers? Guest guest
Couldn't we just use foil on top of the grill? That's what I do. Seems cheaper, anyway. Guest guest
What model grill are you dealing with? Weber makes replacement grills for some of its models. Probably other brands do, too. Or, as others have suggested, one can use aluminum foil, vegetable baskets, etc. Harper
Guest guest
It's a Ducane. I've never been into grilling either. I just heard about the grill covers on another list and people were saying that they're quite handy, especially for using on campground grills. It just seemed an easy way to go. They are indeed made by Reynolds but I haven't found them at Safeway. I'm thinking they might be easier to find in the suburbs where the summer is actually warm enough to stand outside and grill without going hyperthermic... lol. Thanks for the info on charcoal. It's a gas grill though so that's one less thing to worry about. Suki On 8/6/05, flatcat9@... <flatcat9@...> wrote: > What model grill are you dealing with? Guest guest
Actually, when gluten is burned it can cause a worse reaction. My son always got sick when we used briquettes so we switched to a propane grill and he has never had a problem since. Guest guest
Since I began looking last week, I've found many grill (top) replacements, both disposable and otherwise. Most hardware stores carry the non-disposable sort at a reasonable price. When a gas grill isn't available, we'll use lump charcoal or wood chips rather than briquettes, on a new grill top. And, I think I'll forego the grill part of the potluck picnics that are regular events in my community. I can bring a "sandwich equivalent", sit upwind from the grills, and enjoy visiting with friends.
