We started 2 of my children and 11 months and achieved great results with DOC band. My daughter had severe plagio and my son mod to severe brachy. They graduate next week! Good luck!Sent via BlackBerry by AT&TFrom: "kmr8k" <kristi.farouki@...>Sender: Plagiocephaly Date: Mon, 24 Jan 2011 18:01:34 -0000<Plagiocephaly >Reply Plagiocephaly Subject: 10 Month Start-DOC Band Hi All,I am new to this group and have a 9.5 month old little girl who was just evaluated at Cranial Technologies. She was found to have " moderate to severe " brachycephaly with flattening along the back and widening from side to side with a raised top of the skull. My husband and I noticed the flatness when she was about 3 months old, but were told by our pediatrician at her 4 and 6 month appointments not to worry about it. It wasn't until we saw a different doctor at her 9 month appointment that we got a recommendation to have her evaluated. It's looking like our insurance would cover the band, based on our daughter's numbers, but we are still torn about going through with the treatment because she is in the older age range and we're not sure how much improvement we are going to see. I know that improvement differs per case, but I was wondering if any of you have a child who was in a similar situation (age-wise and condition-wise) and what kind of results you saw. Any feedback you can give me would be greatly appreciated!Kristi

My son started with his StarBand on Saturday, a little less than a week after his 10 month " birthday " I too, was worried about having such a late start. In the three weeks between his helmet scan and actually receiving the helmet (because we waited FOREVER for insurance to DENY us, ugh) his head circumference had a 3 mm growth. Which means? Their heads are still very much growing and changing at this age!!

I firmly believe that they would not be allowed to make and advertise these helmets for use in children 3 - 18 months if they ONLY worked in that 3-6 month " sweet spots " that most kids are banded.I've also heard of children being banded from 4-6 months of age and then running into problems again a few months later after not wearing the helmet, which makes sense to me - we had great success with repositioning (went down 5 mm) up until he was 8 months old, so I feel like the later banding prevents fixing it to have to RE-FIX it later, although I don't know if that happens very often, it still makes me feel good that that definitely won't be an issue for us since he'll be over a year when he gets his helmet off.

Hope that helps!
